Re: '10 AZ OT Alex Lewis

Has grown 7 inches in the past 9 months, so he's a late bloomer. His dad played o-line for Nebraska and in the NFL, but was only 6'2" 220lbs as a freshman, so it runs in the family. Good athlete and more of a pass than run blocker. Looks like a LT eventually.

Colorado is his first and only offer so far. Nebraska, Michigan State and UNLV are also pursuing him (unofficial visit to UNLV).

Lewis has picked up an offer from Michigan State.

I'd really like to add him to this class.

Scout speculates his offer to CU is to greyshirt, which makes sense since he will need to put on a lot of weight.

Adam at Rivals confirmed that it is a grayshirt offer and that he's visiting this weekend.

I hope he's willing to grayshirt. It makes sense for everyone involved. He needs to gain 30 or 40 lbs before he can even hold up on scout team (plus mature into his body after that growth spurt). And CU loses 8 o-linemen in 2011, so we need him then more than now. Finally, it's his best chance for success to get an extra year, an extra spring of practices, and an opportunity to get a bachelor's and master's degree paid for while on scholarship. If I were him, I'd jump all over this. Let's hope.

I'm very glad he's coming, and I've got to say you made an excellent argument about why it makes sense for the student.

Welcome to the black and gold, Alex.

I had waited to report due to forum rules about posting content from premium message boards until it had reached article status or aged 24 hours.

But Ralphie Report has gone ahead and published the scoop that Adam had on Rivals. Also, his Rivals profile now shows him as Committed. (Adam's really been the man for getting the best info out the fastest.)

Alex Lewis has accepted a scholarship offer to the Buffs. He will grayshirt, which means he won't enroll until next January and still have 5 years to play 4. He is still only 17 years old, so he decided that the extra year to develop would actually be a good thing. He will fax in a Letter of Intent on Wednesday (National Signing Day).

    Welcome to the BnG, Alex!

This is like getting a high 3* or 4* OL committed a year early for next year's class. Really a fantastic prospect for us.

Welcome aboard! I like the upside this kid shows as he may not be done growing and really the only difference it appears (to me) between him and a 4-star OL is weight. No projection needed on Ryan Miller (he was already close to 300 pounds of good weight in HS), as compared to a Nate Solder for instance. This kid shows some promise for sure. Love having him coming in.

Lewis is one of the recruits I'm most excited about. Here's his new Rivals article (for subscribers, they've got video):

    http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1046803

"The campus at Colorado is just awesome and I like their coaches. It is just a family atmosphere there. The players are all together now. I really feel like the program is going to get turned around with [head coach Dan] Hawkins. I think it will be a good fit for me."

Lewis plans to grayshirt, which means he will delay his enrollment until next January.

"Grayshirting is a great idea because I am still only 17 years old," Lewis said. "My dad and I figured it would give me an extra half a year to grow, mature into my body. I think it will be great."

    Lewis earned first-team all-state, all-city and all-region honors as a senior in 2009.

"I would definitely say my agility and quickness are my best attributes as an offensive lineman," he said. "And I also have a nasty streak. No one is going to beat me unless I beat myself."

I love his attitude, I have a good feeling about him. Our OL recruiting is looking pretty good for next year already.

New Rivals article this morning: http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1146916

Lewis is taking a math course at Mesa Community College to get a small jump on things. Since committing, he's gone from 253 lbs to 270 lbs of good weight with plans to put on another 5 by January. He's also 100% committed to the Buffs.

    I love this kid.

Got to love that. Is he for sure in? The new coaches can't suddenly not honor his commitment right? That would really suck for Alex. the new coaches would also come off as huge douchebags too.

Our OL is seriously terrible. I can't wait to watch us trot out Mustoe, Caldwell, and some true frosh. Ugh

Well, Alex Lewis grew up as Corn. His Dad played there and it was his dream school. Very disappointing.

Call to Mustoe and Irwin to get on some Super-Protein drinks quickly. We are exactly 1 deep at every OL position. Revise my forecast on win totals down from 2 please.

I'm angry. He wasn't good enough for the Corn out of high school and only CU came calling. Nice team-mate. Glad to have you in the foxhole with us. This is really weak.

CU invested a lot and Nebraska will potentially reap rewards for it.

So let's hold hands and collectively wish him good luck? I said the same thing when Josh Smith and D-Scott left. This young man just failed a test of character. He's spent 2.5 years here and just when he's ready to deliver some goods for the school that invested in him, he leaves for NU, dumping his teammates. Good luck? How about **** YOU?

Hope we can find that the Nubs coaches were quietly recruiting him. Anything short of NCAA violations would be a disappointment.

I am not going to flip out, but I am disappointed. Doubt we hear much from him going forward (not sour grapes either, never understood the hype).
