'10 CO ATH Danny Spond (Signed to Notre Dame)

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

DSnider sorry about that I posted it based on the newspaper but heard from a player it was his non throwing shoulder my apoligies. Did you see the game today or play in it?

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

No I couldn't make the game. They had their #2 QB Romero back this week (who wasn't available vs. Pomona), which helped them get back on track. AWest next week, should be a good match-up with or without Spond.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Likes us and Stanford right now. I would like to think we're in decent shape here, but who knows.

Norris fits in nicely as Columbine beats A-West

LAKEWOOD — It was a difficult week for the Columbine football team, which dealt with the sort of adversity no squad wants to encounter during the postseason.

With eight players, including four offensive regulars, getting suspended this week for attending an underage party where alcohol was present, it was the perfect time for one of the Rebels’ senior leaders to take charge and help fill some of the void.

Zane Norris played that role Saturday against Arvada West.

Norris is a linebacker by trade who doubles as a part-time fullback who rarely touches that ball, but that changed against the Wildcats. Norris picked up some of the slack the suspensions left in the Rebels’ backfield by rushing for 126 yards and scoring three touchdowns in helping lead Columbine to a 28-7 victory in a Class 5A second-round playoff game at Jeffco Stadium.

“Zane has been one of our best players all year. He’s a great linebacker and a tough kid,” Columbine coach Andy Lowry said. “He’s got ice on his shoulders every single week after a game. He’s just a warrior and a tough kid. I had all the confidence in the world he’d be ready to step up, and he might be our best back. It’s just better when kids don’t have to play both ways.”

Norris and quarterback Danny Spond, who missed the first-round win against Fruita-Monument last week because of an injured throwing shoulder, helped lead the Rebels to a 355-yard effort on the ground. Spond rushed for a game-best 134 yards and showed no lingering effects from his injury, completing 5-of-7 passes for 70 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Norris in the fourth quarter.

“We kind of had some adversity this week, but we’re a family and we all stick together,” Spond said. “If some guys go down, other guys have to step up and fill in for them. When you get your chance, you have to take advantage of it.”

Colorado quarterbacks looking for more
Adam Munsterteiger

SAN ANTONIO – Austin Hinder and Danny Spond already hold multiple Division I scholarship offers, but the two Colorado standouts had something they wanted to prove at the U.S. Army National Combine on Friday.

Hinder wanted to prove he is worthy of Elite 11 quarterback consideration while Spond wanted to prove he has the arm to line up behind center at the next level.

Hinder hails from Steamboat Springs, a town known for its World-class skiing, not for producing D-1 football players.

"When you come out of a smaller school like I do, you just have to work that much harder," said Hinder, who accounted for more than 2,000 yards of offense and 20 touchdowns this past season. "It is all about going to camps like this and playing well so you can get your name out there."

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Spond has pretty good arm for a high school QB. He can obviously run but I see him as a very talented dual threat quarterback. He plays third base in baseball so he can throw very well. If you watch all of his games like I have he seems to always lock in on one receiver, the deep one. His average pass play was like 15 20 yds or something. He shows he is a great athlete when he was playing basketball. He could be playing now and be their star, Columbine is 0-6 (without Osbourne) but wants to focus on baseball and football. Dont underrate his arm though just cause he is at Columbine. He would thrive at Bear Creek and other surrounding schools as well. Maybe not Chatfield though cause they aren't a talented team with them Chatrats.

Haha I bleed blue and silver as welll as black and gold and had to poke fun at Chatfield. I respect Chatfield a lot and they had a very good football team last year. Very physical and good passing game. You also have had STAR athletes at your school. LenDale White, Zach Robinson and a couple more. All we have is Ryan Miller and Evan Andunsen if you remember him a pitcher. Nice to hear someone from my surrounding area! Wait til next year. STATE CHAMPS:woot:

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Neither of my posts were serious, sorry I failed in making that more clear. But anyway, you're welcome to post whatever you want man, just giving you guys some crap about high school smack (and this is coming from a Chatfield grad). No harm, no foul.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Alright srry its hard to know on a post on a message board. To get back on topic for a bit what do you think of Spond is he comparible to Zac Robinson I was too young to watch Zac play so I have no idea how he looked at Sponds point of his career.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

From talking to people that were on the team during Robinson's time at Chatfield, Robinson was a very good athlete much like Spond. I think Robinson was a little bit more polished passer than Spond is at this point, but that can be attributed to the fact Chatfield just simply passed a lot more than Columbine does. Spond is bigger and has the stronger arm, so there are strengths and weaknesses for each.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

Boulder Buff do you think he can be as good of a QB possibly as Zac. I am not sure if he will even get a chance though with moving him to LB. He is a much much better QB he barely played defense last year only in big games.

I know this question wasn't directed to me, but I have seen him play a couple of times and in person once, clearly a safety or LB.. Physical specimen. I don't see anyone recruiting him as a quarterback, unless it's Air Force. Columbine runs a non-traditional offense. Running the option 98% of the time. So while he is the quarterback of the team, he is really more of the field general.

IMO, this kid is in-state priority number 1 over Hinder... No doubt, we need him. He could be a hybrid LB-Safety, he is that athletic and strong.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

I would agree, Spond is a higher priority over Hinder. Spond has the ability to play several positions LB, TE, H back, or saftey. In the day of 85 schollies it is more of an athlete than a specialists game. Colter, too, could figure into this concept.

BC qb's prospects litter rosters all over the country. If they fail there is only a clipboard to hold.

The future of college football is the dual threat qb. Tebow et. al. stress and pressure defenses in ways never imagined before.

They may not project to the professional level but they are going to win more NC's than the prototype qb in these days.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

I think Spond is a terrific athlete as well. I really think he could be an asset on the offensive side of the ball. We graduate a handful of TEs this year, so maybe he fits in there.

As far as QB is concerned, we need all the talent at that position we can get right now. I don't know if that guy is Hinder, but I think a BC quarterback is pretty important to this year's class.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

I agree Spond is a must get, especially since guys like Hinder and Coulter look like longshots right now, but I am still not convinced about Spond's ability at QB. Maybe he proves me wrong.

Re: '10 CO ATH Danny Spond

That's some pretty good video and the kid, I think, has quite a bit of athleticism, and is a must get fo DH and company.

"Oh Danny Boy oh Danny Boy, these Buffaloe pipes are calling....."

Black and Gold is your destiny.
