Work your magic coach Cabral. It'd take a miracle to pull him from Texas Tech

VJ has an older brother at Tech.

38 inch vertical? That is higher than Bobby Boucher.

Notre Dame will be a factor here as well.

As someone who is from the islands, I would be SHOCKED if he went to Notre Dame.. Manti Te'o going there is still amazing to me. These kids are used to a good view and mild weather... A lot of hawaiian kids I knew had issues with BOULDER's winter... Good luck to anyone thinking these kids will like a winter in Notre Dumb.

As far as Manti... I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred. it is hard for Island kids to adjust to life on the mainland, especially if hte surroundings aren't beautiful.

I believe the dance is called a Haka. A traditional Polynesian War Dance.

I don't know about that. You probably have friends that support your view, but I as well knew quite a few kids from Hawaii (Punahou to be exact) that adapted quite well to CO's weather. Some of them would still bitch about it, but they still live in CO four years after graduation.

Jason Ching was the last big time Punahuo All-American before Teo (at least from what I can remember), and he too went to Notre Dame. He stuck there all of his eligibility in spite of constant injuries. I think Teo stays all four-six years. I also would dispute that it's hard for island kids to adjust to life on the mainland - I know lots more (didn't even go to CU) that adjusted rather well. In fact, most HI kids tell me the same thing - when you grow up on an island, all you want to do is leave. You feel trapped.

edit: I just realized you said you were from the islands, so I guess you have better feel for the subject. Still, all I can go by is what I know from friends...

Re: '10 HI LB V.J. Fehoko

You see, your problem is that you are going by your friends, who STAYED. I would say 1 in 4 kids from Hawaii stay on the mainland. "getting off the rock" is a real issue. A lot of kids can't adjust. I know of a few who did, but they are rare...

As far as Punahou goes, well, that is the richest (by far) school in the state, and is a prep school. I went to their rival, Iolani. About 2/3ds of the kids who graduate from those schools leave the islands, and a higher than average % of those last. So Manti may stick it out. I would just be surprised. The farther east you go, the rougher most of these kids have it, especially the ones whose culture and upbringing make them expect a certain closeness to their families.

On average, Hawaii kids have a HUGE problem adjusting, and the ones who stick it out invariably seem to be the ones who get cabin fever on an island... Like me :smile2:

It goes both ways. A lot of kids leave the islands and have a hard time adjusting. Conversely, a lot of mainlanders can't handle living on the islands. Visiting is one thing, living there is something else entirely.

Still, the temperature in Hawaii never goes below 55 degrees. High temps in the Summer are around 88, and in the Winter are about 83. Not a lot of change to the weather there. That's a far cry from most places on the mainland, save for maybe southern California and Florida.

    Fehoko up to 13 Offers

Hawaiian linebacker V.J. Fehoko is projected to be one of the top linebackers in the state of Hawaii, which is a great compliment given the fact that he’s primarily played defensive end at the prep level. Recently, Fehoko accepted an invitation to play in the Under Armor Bowl as one of Hawaii’s top football prospects.

Along with being invited to the All-Poly and Nike Camps, V.J. Fehoko has also been invited to the Army All-American Bowl and the Under Armor Bowl.

He recently switched schools. From Farrington HS (in Honolulu), to Kahuku HS (Kahuku). His new teammates Kona Schwenke and Hauoli Jamora might be pushing him towards Provo.

Fehoko is switching schools back to Farrington HS. He recently left Farrington to attend Kahuku, but he said he missed his friends at Farrington.

Re: '10 HI LB V.J. Fehoko

This looks promising, at least the teaser...

    Fehoko talks Colorado

Colorado could have two Polynesian players starting at linebacker this fall in B.J. Beatty and Michael Sipili. Both will see significant playing time at the very least. One of the top linebacker recruits on the CU board is friends with both players and likes what he sees in Boulder.

Entire article is very positive. Fehoko hasn't announced a Top 5 yet, but he was complimentary of CU football (knew we recently won a national title) and, among other things, spoke very highly of Coach Cabral. Most interesting thing to me was that he knows Lynn Katoa and Katoa has good things to say about CU even though we've parted ways.

Fehoko has released a top 6 and we're not in it. (Utah, Utah State, Hawaii, Texas Tech, UCLA and Texas A&M - hasn't offered yet).

We're not going to land Fehoko.
