Harrington will visit this weekend and likely leaves a commitment if he gets an offer.

why a JUCO LB? Those classes seem pretty bloated.

We were looking to add a JUCO LB from early on but lost Derek Earls to Arizona. Once Hartigan moved to DE, it left a hole in the junior class. The rule of thumb is to have 2 scholarship LBs in every class.

I like the move if we end up signing him. Good speed, too.

I think we are just plain thin at LB and we need immediate help.

    Rivals article

Harrington, a 6-foot, 220-pounder, makes an official recruiting trip to Colorado this weekend. He says if the Buffaloes offer him a scholarship, he's ready to accept.

"They're my No. 1 choice," Harrington said. "I've always liked Colorado and the Big 12. I really like how sincere their coaches are, and I can really feel they want to win."

Harrington played at Bowie (Md.) High and said he didn't have much recruiting interest as a 6-foot, 195-pound "'tweener" that needed to improve his SAT score.

"That's when I heard from College of the Canyons," he said. "I was a 'tweener, but they said they would help me get to the next level. That's what College of the Canyons has done for me."

Harrington said he put on about 10 pounds before his freshman and sophomore years to get up to 220. He played outside linebacker at College of the Canyons, but he said he can play inside or outside if that's what Colorado prefers.

From before the season, a blip from Scout's preview of College of the Canyons:

LB Evan Harrington – “He’s going to play the middle for us and he’s a smart and solid player. He’s really physical at the point and I think he’s got enough speed to play outside if necessary, but he’ll be inside for us this fall.”

Well I like his speed that's for sure. Seems odd to me that they're going after a JUCO LB with all of the high school options we have. I know we lost like 4 guys this year, but I thought we had some pretty promising guys ready to step in next year.

Prepare to get excited about Evan Harrington. New video on Youtube. He's a tackling machine who buries guys when he hits them. Plays with a mean streak and a ton of intensity. Regardless, if Cabral believes he can play then he can play.

#19 in the video. Usually lines up at left inside linebacker. Sometimes walks up outside left end as a pass rusher.

I like that he fights through lead blocks instead of taking a side.

A tv commentator once described Jashon Sykes as such...."he gets there fast and arrives angry". This guy shows some of those flashes. I wouldn't mind him being a Buff.

Despite my disgust with Hawkins coaching I am surprised by the quality of athlete he seems to be coming up with. At this point I just wish he would sign a full class and oversign a bit to compensate for some guys who might not get in.

As to Harrington he looks like one of those tweeners, not big enough to be a classic LB, not quite quick enough to be a DB. That given there are a number of great defenses around the country who play a number of guys who aren't classic fits but are superior athletes.

The best coaches (and Hawk isn't one of them but Cabral has proven he one of them) figure out a way to get quality athletes on the field and put them is position to make plays.

Harrington looks to me like a guy who could be a very good fit against the spread offenses that are so popular now. He has enough speed to stay with RBs on short patterns and to cover short zones against slants and other short patterns that a lot of offenses rely on. At the same time he is strong enough and rugged enough to defend against the run out of the spread and even to be an effective blitzer.

Wait until he signs a full class before you extoll DH's virtues...

I am just looking at the positives amid a sea of failure. He hasn't had a winning season yet. He had a worse record this year than last and last year was worse than the year before, not a good trend.

He has also failed to recruit full classes multiple years and has lost key recruits out of each class due to various reasons without quality guys in line to take their places.

He has also failed to recruit Big XII quality players at certain positions and/or failed to develop players to the level needed to win. E.G. QB, I see some signs with Hansen and have big hopes for Hirschman but in 4 years we have not had Big XII quality QB play. We have also been less than adequete at WR, TE is now thin, RB an area of hope for the fans is now thin, OL has talent but not performed, DE has underperformed, LBs have been up and down and safety play has cost us games. Other than those tiny points our special teams have been anything but and are getting worse.

That all said considering that this is a team that hasn't won and is going downhill, with a coach who many felt should have been fired this year and baring a miracle turnaround or more stupidity from the administration will be fired next year, I am pleasantly surprised with the athletic talent and potential of a number of our recruits. If nothing else Hawk's replacement will be left with more to work with than Hawk had when he came (no offense to the number of quality players who were here but most of the team was a talent dead-zone.)

It must be pretty positive considering he's listed as a commit on rivals!

Rivals has published an article. It was the first source to break the story (Adam had it on their message board ahead of the published article).

    Evan Harrington commits to Colorado

"What really made me want to be a Buff was their coaching staff," Harrington said. "[Linebackers] coach [Brian] Cabral is just an excellent coach. I look forward to having him be my coach and also be like a mentor for me. Coach Hawk, Coach [Ron] Collins, the whole coaching staff is just so real and humble. They want to win."

Harrington will factor in at one of the inside linebacker spots. He was named all-conference after leading the College of the Canyons in tackles, sacks, forced fumbles and tackles for a loss this past season as a sophomore.

I guess there's a chance. But aren't the RS-Freshmen all we have behind Sipili at Mike LB and Major at Will LB? Sam (OLB) is I believe where we return the most with Beatty, Ahles and Rippy.

I'd be surprised if Harrington wasn't brought in to make an impact in 2010.

Just scanned the thread quickly, but didn't see anything on when he graduates. Any possible issues? Either way hopefully he gets in and tears it up next year.
