Roberson is a well-rounded player who is a Scottie Pippin type on the court, doing a little bit of everything for his team.

    Senior year stats:

    PPG: 8.3
    APG: 2.3
    RPG: 7.7
    SPG: 1.8
    BPG: 0.3

These stats were put up while Roberson was named MVP of his San Antonio district this year while leading his team to the 5A State Semifinals.

Nice story on Roberson and his family here:
Athleticism in abundance in Robersons' gene pool

    • Father John, was a basketball player, a 6-foot-8 All-City forward at Southwest in 1985 before playing at New Mexico State.

    • Mom, Lisa, a 5-10 outside hitter from Indiana who was on the volleyball team.

    • They had 7 kids. Andre is third, behind two older sisters. Andre's younger brother is on the school's JV BBall team

    • Four of the 7 kids have followed John in basketball, where he had a 12-year pro career in Australia, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Germany and the CBA.

    • Andre's older sister, Ashlee is a 5-11 senior starting forward at Texas Tech.

Had decent offers from other schools, looks like a huge upside kid. Looks young, could add a couple more inches and add 10-20 pounds to an already wirey strong frame. I like it...

Good news, still think we need a few more post men. Good start none the less. BB was the first to mention the new coach as a possiblilty that I saw so rep for that. Honestly, I didnt know who the hell he was. Asked my brother if he heard of this guy and he was at that 5A semi. Basically told me he had a pretty good skill set and once he filled out, he'd be a good player fwiw.

He is good size for a SF, but let's not start thinking this is going to be a "big guy" for us. Yes some reading mentioned that he was able to play against that 6'9" 250 lb guy who is going to A&M, but that was in high school. This guy is only 1" and about 10 lbs bigger than Burks. We still need to get a couple guys who are 6'9" in here if we want to have a real "big guy." I'm not putting down Andre, because I think he is a great pickup and sounds like a fierce competitor who can do a lot of great things for us, but he is not the "big guy" we are looking for.

he is not going to be our "big" but in the right system you don't need a big. Go look at Missourri or Kansas State, the biggest guy for Miss is 6-9 and for Kansas state, their biggest guy is 6-9 beside their single 7 footer who plays less than 10 minutes per game. let me ask you this. Who would you rather have? a 7 footer with a 12 inch vertical or a 6-8 player with a 38 inch vertical?

I'd prefer having a couple traditional bigs that can play.

But I'd always take a 6'7" guy who can play over a 6'10" guy who can't.

All things being equal (and a bit off topic) I want size, and this reminds me of a Kevin McHale quote when he was critiquing a trade a team made where they gave up a bad 6'11" player in exchange for a bad 6'8" player: "You never give away 3 inches of *****."

Did I say I wanted a 7-footer? I was thinking about K. State and Missouri when I said this wasn't going to be our "big guy". The reason I keep quoting "big guy" is because I'm not talking about getting a skyscraper in here. For the system Tad wants to run, which is up-tempo with athletic players who can run the floor, Andre seems to fit in perfectly with his length and athleticism. However, Tad also wants the team to focus on a strong defense and rebounding, both of which are extremely important to play uptempo (because you can't fast break as well off a made basket so you must rebound and get steals) basketball. In the Big XII this requires bigger guys than 6'7" 190 lb dudes. We need to get players that are a couple of inches taller and 30 lbs heavier who can run the court for easy fast break dunks after they defend 7-footers with their combination of athleticism, height, and strength.

Andre will create some great match-ups for us on the perimeter, but don't pretend that he is the "big guy" we are looking for.

in today's game, the traditional "5" is more of an exception than a necessity. great if you get that guy (like Duncan or the big kid from St. Mary's who terrorized Nova inside) but with as athletic as kids are today and the range of shooting....the court is much smaller than it was even 15 years ago. CU's size problems of the last 3-4 years notwithstanding, the trad "5" idea is a bit of a hold-over from a strict high and low post offensive set. Game is a lot more fluid these days. If we had two Marcus Relphorde's we are a better than .500 team in conference last year.

i'd rather have a guy who's active on the glass, gives you 5 legit fouls in the paint, and can step out to 15 feet or the FT line than a space-eater just for the sake of having one. 9 out of 10 times when i see "7 footer", I think "stiff".

Great post. Still though, we don't have anyone who can really defend inside. Relphorde is what, only 6'6"? He just can't defend the 6'9" athletic guys that every other school in the Big XII has. Which is why we need to get a couple 6'9" athletic guys. Andre is a great get, but doesn't solve our problem. Dufault, Harris-Tunks, Beckley, and Eckloff are big, but not mobile enough to defend the more athletic bigs or grab every rebound around the rim. This was painfully evident all last season when their defense consisted of fouling so the other team doesn't get a lay-up

and, that option is taken off the table because last year too often the other team is in the double-bonus with 6 minutes left in the 2nd half and basically you have to score every time down the floor to keep pace. that puts too much pressure on your O. you miss a couple shots on your end, and they make FT's...all of a sudden a close game is 3 possessions. force a couple bad 3's to play catch-up without running the offense.....and that's it. doesn't really matter how well you played the other 36 minutes.

I do like the Roberson get a lot.

6'7" on CUBuffs.com roster, which means he is likely closer to 6'6".

Regardless of his height, did he successfully defend against 6'9" post players last year? No. We need bigger people.

It's one thing to say that teams can compete with guys no taller than 6'9", but you need those guys to go about 240 or more if you want a true post presence. Some bangers and space eaters inside are a must. Right now, we just don't have anybody like that (or at least nobody like that that can actually play....)

I disagree with that. I think for the system that Boyle wants to implement, we want guys who are 6'9" and around 210-220 so they are quick, mobile, and athletic. With guys like this, you will get some blocked and contested shots on the defensive end, which leads to a fast break where all 5 of your guys on the court can run and give you numbers and options. On the offensive end, you feed him the ball and he has the length and athleticism to go up with a shot over the defense and quick enough to go around a "space eater" defender to get to the rim. These types of bigs cause a lot more problems for other teams than a big power guy, IMO.

I think Andre is a great pick up for the Buffs, but no he isnt the Big guy we are looking for. He is going to be a good fix for Higgins, Relphorde, and possibly Burks leaving after next year. You will probably see him getting a few minutes next year, but really taking off after his sophmore year, this is a good pickup for the future of the program, not just a quick fix.
