Looking ahead to football season: Ennis

The first high school football games of the season are three months away. That might seem like a long time, but once school gets out in a few days, summer takes over, and then the time zips by. The only exception I can think of are the summers when I was a camp counselor and spent much of June and July hoping the kids I was watching wouldn't do serious harm to themselves or others. Those summers took forever. But that's getting off track ...
So as we look ahead, let's talk about some things that should make the fall great. Today's topic:
Ennis QB D.J. Betik and WR Kyle Guinyard
guinyard.jpg

These guys were fun to watch last season and will be again in the fall. Betik threw for 3,384 yards last season and 32 touchdowns, 20 of which were to Guinyard, one of the top receivers in the area.

The 6-1, 180-pound Guinyard (pictured) had 110 catches last season -- a pretty eye-popping total even in Ennis' prolific offense. He was an all-area receiver and is one of the top recruits in the area. I remember when he caught 19 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a playoff win over Kilgore. Betik (6-0, 175) was a District 16-4A first-teamer, and although he might be smallish in the eyes of college recruiters, he seems to have Division I ability.

Should be another fun season for Ennis, which also should have a star at defensive tackle, the 6-3, 240-pound Rob Boyd.

-Kyle Guinyard, WR, Ennis HS, Ennis, TX
Here’s another speedy receiver who can stretch the field. There isn’t a lot of film on him yet but word is that he has shined at various camps. Kansas, Texas Tech, and Colorado are BCS schools who have offered with Kansas and Tech leading the way.

He may not be high on the Miners just yet but there is still plenty of time to turn him in the upcoming season. We’ll keep you posted as he is very good prospect.

Interesting. I don't recognize many names on that list other than Shipley and Dugat.

Re: '10 TX WR Kyle Guinyard

TT most likely will not have room for him. Hope we make a real push for him.

Re: '10 TX WR Kyle Guinyard

ACL injury and he's likely to miss the rest of his senior year.

Looks like he's leaning SMU since it's still close to home. Mentioned Arizona, Tulsa and Kansas for possible official visits. Not looking good for CU on this one.

Re: '10 TX WR Kyle Guinyard (Committed to SMU)

When is cu going to wake up and start getting 5-6 texas kids every year? I was checking out rivals state rankings and there's nobody on that list of 100 left for cu to even get. :sad2:
