Oshkosh West H.S. (Oshkosh, WI)
No offers yet, but drawing interest from Colorado, Portland and Milwaukee.
Below is the write-up from the Wisconsin Sports AAU Summer League Preview.
#14 David Anderson, 6-8, Jr., PF, Oshkosh West
A two-year starter for Oshkosh West … Averaged nearly eight points and five rebounds per game as a junior for the Wildcats … Excellent size and passing ability … From coach Hurd, “David struggled a bit with his role at the start of this year, but he finished with a flurry playing his best ball at the end. David is very long and is an excellent shot blocker and help defender. Fast for a big man, he can really get up and down the floor and is in great condition. He is starting to get more consistent with his shot to 15 feet and is a reliable free throw shooter. David is working hard on his on-the-ball defense in the post and in becoming more physical. He also needs to more consistently score from the post with low post moves. A fine college prospect, David’s best basketball is ahead of him.”
Preseason rating as the #9 prospect in the state of Wisconsin according to Wisconsin Sports Network.
Sounds like a project.
My thoughts exactly. He can run and jump. He's got long arms, a good frame and good height. But I've got to think he's a Plan C type of guy unless he blows up his senior year.
If you go to his high school's basketball web site, they have the team stats for the past several years. Anderson's shooting %s got better from his sophomore to junior year, but he still scored about 6 points a game both years and his rebounding & shot blocking didn't increase.
Sounds like another Trent Beckley. No?
Kinda does. And it's not that I'm opposed to recruiting a defense & rebounding specialist to play the 4 or 5 (especially if he can hit a mid-range jumper and make his free throws).
It's just that if we're going to go this direction, I'd rather land a guy like Biruta that brings the same stuff to the table but comes from a higher level program, looks more physically ready, and has 3 pt range on his jumper.
I've been searching for info on Biruta. I don't think I'll get much until the season starts.
