Interesting how he slipped under the radar.

I am guessing that Iltis not being able to finish out his career is a big factor here.

BTW, Embree or someone on the staff must have a good relationship with Westlake High School. Nelson Spruce, Cotner, and we are good shape with Justin Solis for the 2012 class.

I think we can be assured he was a full qualifier, because if he wasn't, he'd have to stay in Juco until graduating with a 2-year degree per NCAA rules. Of course, he could have already received the 2 year degree, but that would be pretty remarkable.

I would assume he had no offers (or anythat interested him) out of High School and felt that a JC stint would improve his stock. In other words, overlooked.

I'd have to guess that his HS coach is talking to one of the Buff coaches and telling them this kid is good enough. They could have gone to watch him workout and realized it was time to get him off the street and fast before he plays a game of JC. Since he hasn't played a game since HS, and nobody apparently wanted him then, somone on staff got some insider info on this kid. Given we are hitting this school hard, I'd guess his HS coach is working it. The JC coach would probably not talk the kid up until he's gotten a season back in payment.

I didn't think this is correlated with Iltis leaving as this kid hasn't played a down and Iltis was a senior. But now I'm concerned that perhaps there's concern on Daniels' foot healing up? That would put us really thin at center.

I like these late pickups. They've proven pretty solid recently.

And, why he redshirted once he got there. Injury? Isn't real unusual for a klid to go JC, then redshirt?

Maybe he went redshirt route to put on some weight. Based on this article he went from 250 to 290.

Welcome Brad. Look forward to seeing you on the field.

    Go Buffs!

Redshirting at a Juco? I'd really like an explanation on that one, not just speculation. That seems very odd to me.

Could be one pissed of JC coach. Brings a kid in with the idea of using a scholly on him for a year to get bigger then have his center for a couple of years. Kid comes in, uses the scholly, gets big and leaves before seeing the field.

If they had a couple of guys in front of him and thought that they would have him to follow up it would have been worth doing. Now the coach had the scholly tied up and no center.

I also wonder if the 250 figure wasn't one of those wishful thinking numbers and he was actually 235. Didn't play him because he would have been run over by college sized DTs. That also might mean that he isn't really 290 right now but they are expecting him to be there so they list it.

I leave town for a week and I'm away from the board, so of course we signed someone. I swear, if I disappeared for a month we'd have the nation's #1 class when I got back.

thanks for the fix nik. sorry I wasn't OCD about the recruit profile. For some reason, I lose all desire to put the effort in when I log on to AB (which shouldn't surprise anyone)

He actually looks pretty good. If you would have shown me his video, or Munyer's, I probably would have told you Cotner was the better player. Both seem to be pretty good in Embree's eyes. More exposure in this part of LA is great IMO so i'm on board with this.

Munyer and Cotner will be in the same class then. It will be interesting to see who wins. My guess is on Munyer but I'm sure both could play guard

Can somebody find out exactly why the kid redshirted at a Juco? That just seems incredibly weird to me.

Munyer can also play OG, looked good in spring ball at C, will most likely start at C in the fall.

The only info we have gotten is that he gained 40 lbs while redshirting. I don't think he was big enough to play center in college at the weight he had been at. Similar to Alex Lewis, who would have needed to redshirt if he'd gone to a JUCO last fall.

"Brad is a great kid, hard worker and talented," Ventura College head coach Steve Mooshagian told BuffStampede.com. "I would have loved to have him play for us this fall but the [Colorado] offer was too good to pass up. If he stayed he would have had offers from USC, UCLA, Arizona and Washington, as they all liked what they saw during spring drills.

"He will be a great addition for Colorado. One of my best friends is [CU special teams coordinator and tight ends coach] J.D. Brookhart so I am glad to see the Buffs get a good one."

Pretty damn strong endorsement. Hard to believe that USC would be looking at a JUCO transfer considering their limitations on scholarships these days. However, I will just assume Embree got a steal, cause I prefer to be positive about these things

It is not so unusual to redshirt at a Juco, we just don't hear of it so often because the kids that we tend to hear about are the kids who are D1 kids who go the Juco route because they didn't qualify for a 4 year school. Those kids go there and play the 2 years they need to and get the credits they need to (AA degree now required) to move back into the 4-year recruiting picture.

A lot of kids who have some work to do on their bodies redshirt to buy time. A better idea is to grayshirt (take less than 12 hours) and that keeps the NCAA 5 year clock from starting at all. That is what this kid evidently did so he will have 5 to play 4.

My question here is he mentioned practicing with the team, and grayshirts can't do that I don't think.
