"Damiene is a picture of consistency. He gets a double-double almost every night," Hilliard [Coach at Westlake] said. "He rebounds as well as anybody. He is not a power rebounder, but rather an instinctual rebounder. He gets a ton of rebounds against much taller and sometimes bigger opponents.

"Our goal this year is to try to get him a little bit out of the post and extend himself a little bit. There is no player in the country that is better fundamentally in the post. Damiene has great footwork and a little jump hook and the moves and he can do that in his sleep. He just needs to get outside that box, because 6-foot-7 post players are kind of rare. It is time to move out."

    From his ESPN bio:

Cain is a tremendous competitor who gives an honest effort each time out. He has developed some nice face-up skills including a smooth 3-point shot. In the paint area he plays much bigger than he is and his foot work and feel around the basket is quite good. He does a tremendous job of using his body to convert over players taller than him.

From an ESPN article on The Double Pump West Coast All Star Camp:

Although Cain is an undersized 5-man, he has definitely progressed since the regular season. He uses his strong frame, long arms, and savvy to score over taller bigs including a couple of nice turn around jump shots on 6-9 John Ryan. His feel is tremendous and he is a very astute passer out of the post. In addition, he nailed a spot-up 3-point jump shot and his stroke looked pretty smooth. Overall, he competes each and every time out and is an advanced player for his age.

Rivals, Scout and ESPN are all reporting that Cain is down to 3 schools: Colorado, Boston College and San Diego State.

He visited BC over the weekend. He visits SDSU the previous weekend.

Tad Boyle is doing an in-home with him today (Monday).

He says he will decide by next week.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

Cali High Sports is reporting that it's down to a top 2 for Cain: Boston College and Colorado. Cain had been expected to commit to BC during his visit but did not (although he gave a very positive trip report and said that BC leads).

Sounds like the door was left open for CU. Let's hope Boyle kicked it down today. I'd love to see Cain wearing the black & gold (or those sweet silver home unis Nike introduced for us last year).

With Ryan Anderson committing to Boston College, CU is looking good for Cain.

I hope so, but Cain has been a BC lean for a long time. I think the fact he didn't commit during his trip is a good sign, but I think BC will take the next one of Cain or Cunningham. Either way, hopefully we get one of them.

How much room did they have in this class?

New Rivals article this morning: http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1130306

Also included in the article were Cain's junior year stats: 13.3 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 1.9 apg. Well-rounded player who's obviously doing good work on the glass and the defensive end.

Cain is an Official Visitor to CU for the weekend of October 1.

P.S. Adam's been killing it this fall with basketball articles. Kyle's been stepping it up in a big way for Scout, too. There's definitely a feel that momentum for basketball is growing fast at CU.

    Glad you asked. :smile2:

Also the stuff you'd expect about loving Boulder and Denver (pleasantly surprised) plus how he sees how he'd immediately fit in considering our need for an inside presence.

This is a big deal... and it's very likely that he will be announcing for Colorado. #12 player in California and we've already secured #8 with the Dinwiddie commitment.

All the speculation from inside the program and from the media is that...

Damiene Cain will announce as a Buff today.

We should know somewhere around 4:15 Mountain Time. So we'll likely have the info ahead of the game.

We are dangerously thin in the paint with the loss of auzzie Harris-Tunks. This is a huge commit for the Buffs.

I think with Tunks coming back next year and Mills hopefully putting on 25 lbs, we might be okay in the bigs and need some really athletic 6-7 to 6-9 players. Basically more guys like Roberson, Cain is one of them for sure.
