Here is the Scout evaluation of Hall:

    STRENGTHS: Hands and Concentration; Speed
    AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Size

An explosive receiver, Hall has the ability to get down field from the outside receiver position, and his ability to elevate makes him a viable target at any point in the field. He's tough enough to go over the middle, quick enough to make a man miss, and strong enough to out jump and outfight a corner for a ball. Lacks ideal size, but still seems to play big - Scott Kennedy, Scout.com.

Wondering if he might be a guy that switches to defense at some point.

Could be. I think he's got a lot of potential as a return man, too. Caught 3 punts this year and took 1 to the house. Also averaged over 20 yards a reception. He's a big play speed guy. I could easily see him coming in with thoughts of becoming the next Ben Kelly.

Doesn't have an offer from CU. Are we looking at him?

I think I read somewhere that Hall intends to wait until NSD to announce his decision. IMO this is a mistake. Three-star, unrated kids don't get to play the pick-the-hat-on-the-table game. If I were a HC, I might be willing to play the lottery on NSD for a 5-star or high 4-star player, because the reward is worth the risk. For a 3-star kid, I'd have to know in advance what he is doing, so I can try to cover the loss with another similar player if he chooses to go elsewhere. If none of Hall's choices is willing to wait until NSD for his decision and fill the WR slot with someone else, he could find himself with nothing.

I was going to contradict that, but I found it mentioned in a December interview...

That is Marvin Hall who committed to Washington. ESPN has it, too. He's the guy who was going to visit next weekend and we cancelled it.

(I'll move these posts to his thread. Thanks for finding the info, G-Nut.)

What are you talking about Michael Thomas for? My understanding is that he hasn't taken any visits because he's trying to get a qualifying test score done. You can't take OVs unless you have that.

CU cancelled it. Embree made the call based on recommendation from the Admissions Committee.

Same here, we can't keep pushing borderline kids through and let it bite us on the ass with apr hit when they don't make the grade.

I might have screwed things up by posting in the wrong thread by mistake. Sorry.

Michael Thomas has nothing to do with it. Hall committed to UW.

It's not that. It's a question of what percentage of our recruiting classes we're willing to take academics risks on. Given the fact that we're in the midst of APR scholarship penalties and a lot of the academic risks Hawkins took struggled last semester, Embree is taking minimal risks with this class.

I agree, though, that we have to figure out how to do this better. Washington and CU are on par with Washington probably having an overall edge. Cal has better academics. Both are taking guys we took a pass on. I want to know what they're doing to keep their kids eligible. I hope that Bohn and company are finding these answers from our conference brethren. It's very different than keeping a kid eligible at KSU or OSU when we're talking Cal and UDub.

Let's hope Embree can also weed out some more kids that are not going to make it academically or on the field before the hurt our us more long term.
