Get Jack in this kid's ear. Right now.

He would make a nice duo with Hansen. Would think both have a good shot at getting written offers on Sept. 1st along with the Mullen trio.

On the o-line, I'm also curious about Sean Palinckx from Ponderosa (I think that's where Jon Major went). Austin said that he was right with him as the best players at the CU camp. I've heard nothing on him, though. Did a little digging and he was 6'6" as a sophomore and was still growing into it at 235 lbs.

One other guy that supposedly did very well at the Boulder Nike camp and the elite camp (Friday Night Lights or whatever it is called) is Spencer Drango out of Texas. Should be an elite OT prospect in the 2011 class and is a teammate of Chet Moss.

Also, there is another OT prospect out of New Mexico, Matthew Hegarty, that will most likely be amongst the top OT prospects in the West and we have shown early interest.

Could have the makings of an outstanding OL class.

Rivals is reporting that Brendon competed at the U.S. Army All-American Combine this week and tested well.

They also had an update on his recruiting:

During the off-season Austin is focused on speed and strength training. He's also got his eyes on the recruiting process.

Austin has already collected offers from Colorado, Kansas State and Stanford and he has heard from several schools including Colorado State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern and Arizona. He also heard from Notre Dame, but that was prior to December's coaching change.

"I have heard from (the Irish), but it's been a while," he said. "I talked to them a little bit; it was one of the guys from the previous staff. I'm interested."

Most of the colleges recruiting Austin have indicated they like him at either of the tackle positions.

Austin plans to visit Stanford in January or February and will attend Colorado's junior day this weekend. He hopes to make his college choice this summer.

Early 3* on Scout. Recently picked up an offer from Notre Dame. He is the most highly recruited player of the 2011 CO class thus far.

Or have a big season with the current staff. Although I believe that hiring a new OL coach (preferably someone who has coached in the NFL) would have a big impact. I'm not sure that Denver Johnson is exciting him.

DenverJ isn't exciting anyone right now. Either Johnson's "unit" will impress this year, or he and Hawkins will be gone together. It is all on that unit imo. Either outcome, our recruiting season will be redefined (i.e. begun) somewhere between Oct 4th and Dec 15th.

New Rivals article brings good news: CU is in Austin's top 3.

"Really there is no order there. I just have a top three now," Austin said on Sunday afternoon. "It is not one, two and then three. Stanford, Colorado and Notre Dame are all packed into one group."

    http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1063139

Previously, he'd stated that Stanford and Notre Dame were his favorites with CU and CSU in third. That sounded to me like he was giving an obligatory mention of the in-state programs as a thank you for offering. But this update definitely shows that CU has moved up the ladder.

Reportedly, Austin was at practice last week wearing a CU t-shirt. We may be in a stronger position than I had thought.

Austin is in South Bend this weekend. I have a sick feeling he will commit to the Domers shortly.

Can't say I'm not disappointed. But a lot can happen in 9 months.

Not over at all IMO. That said, I think the only way he comes here is if a new coaching staff is here after next season and can steer him up to Boulder. I do not see him signing with CU if Dan Hawkins is still head coach in February 2011.

    Let's go Embree!

Bring him in. Harbaugh is leaving for the NFL and we're gonna have a shot here.
