'12 CA DE Samson Kafovalu (Signed to Colorado)

He'll add weight. Again, in a 3-4 defense, you need 3 guys up front that are 285 or more and most teams that run it have two 300lbs guys up front. With all these DL, I think a few will be rush/olb and guys like samson will end up as a de in this scheme but probably around 280 plus.

Are we still going with a 3-4, or has the scheme shifted (per other thread) to a 5-2-4 or hybrid 4-3?

Indications are that we will be running a 4-3 in 2012. I think Brown wants to keep it so that we have 1 NT who commands a double team, 1 DT who can be more of a penetrator, and 2 DEs who can stand up in the running game but are athletic enough to drop into coverage if he wants to zone blitz with a LB to overload an area of the OL.

I love this for two reasons. It reaffirms our coaches eye for talent, as we were the first offer before they started rolling in. And second, Samson took the fact that we were the first to offer into consideration in his decision. Love kids that truly want and are excited to be buffs.

On the depth chart it stated that we ran a 34 base defense. But scheme wise we were in a 43 most of the time, with a Jack LB, that either stands up or has his hands in the ground pre snap.

Yeah. It was as if we just called it a 3-4 because it was ludicrous to call Hartigan a DE.

If CU is going back to a more traditional 4-3, we are in awesome shape. We are loaded at DL and for at least 2012, we have 3 lb's in major, rippy and webb. Next year,LB recruiting is going to have to be a major concern.

Its a good thing we have recruited the dline so well this year especially not bringing in any lb's. Have to get those guys occupying blocks up front and keeping our backers clean. Last year, we had major issues when our backers had to take on blocks in the hole, they got swallowed up. More disruptive our front can be, more our backers can flow and make plays.

I believe there are a few guys moving to LB ASAP already on the roster and it's deeper than we know. A walkon, a few DBs, maybe a TE. Not sure who but my theory is we are hoping to add a lot of speed in the back.

I'd expect Tuuamalo, Harlos, Clark to be in play here. Time to add weight boys.

Tuumalo certainly, I would think one of either Harlos or Clark might make that transition.

Clark looked too small to me to be an LB in the future

Pretty sure he has 10 pounds on Harlos at least and was the same size as K.T.

Anyway, I think we are jacking Samson's thread.

Does it look like Samson, Kory, and Tyler will be all playing the same position? With a 4-man front the under-sized tackle would be a 1-1 penetrating disruptive force (like Warren Sapp or Richard Seymour). Pericak will have this locked down next year but I could see Samson or Tyler challenging for a reserve duty right away and being an awesome 1-2 rotation in the future.

I could see Solis (along with Tupou) playing the NT position behind Bonsu/Richter.

Really good news. UCLA and Washington were trying to make a late push.
