Alferd - don't get too excited over the fact that he punts and kicks.

CU is looking at him due to the 103 tackles and 7 sacks he recorded as a junior.

    Scout had a good article:

Not content to stand on his past accomplishments Davis has a rigorous offseason planned as he hits the camp and combine trail. In January Davis attended the U.S. Army National Combine. In March Davis will compete at the Badger Sport Elite 7 on 7 in Las Vegas and in May he will attend Football University and the Colorado University Football Showcase.

On top of his on the field production and versatility, Davis is a strong student that has gained Academic All-State honors.

Here's the link to the newspaper article about him being selected among the 500 underclassmen at the US Army Combine: http://www.epcan.com/sports/local-sports/fountain-ft-carson-high/1896-fountain-fort-carsons-kevin-davis-participating-in-2011-us-army-national-football-combine.html

"I have been up to watch some games at CU before and I love the atmosphere up there," Davis said. "The football program at CU is amazing and everything around the school is real nice. I like it a lot."

I'm expecting the Buffs to sign Davis. Could be an early commitment for us.

I thought the Starr kid from Norco and he were comparable at this time but I was wrong. Starr has pretty solid fundamentals, while Davis does not at this time. Potential wise though, I think Davis has higher upside, where as Scott seems to be much more of a finished product IMO.

Davis looks like he has a legit D-1A frame. He looks every bit of 6'2" on film. He's wirey so you probably figure that coaches are imagining this kid in a good weight training program, he probably puts on 15-20lbs of muscle fairly quick his first and second year. Athletically he looks fluid moving around. He takes false steps like crazy, turns his hips to the LOS, and isn't very good with his hands. I imagine he can turn his hips and run pretty easily though and speed will probably be pretty good when he gets timed.

There's a lot of work to be done with this kids game so it's good he's not resting on his laurels. So why the interest? If you talk to any coach or recruiter, you're looking for good players for your squad, at the same time your projecting 2-3 years down the road as well. "What could this player become?", the same way you see colleges take in 6'5", 240-250lb offensive linemen, they fill other positions that way as well. You might call this interest a speculative add, a 6th or 7th round draft pick.

If we're trying to run a 3-4, you need big athletic LB's that can run and move around. You can't sacrifice size for agility as you'll open yourself up to be pick apart on defense. This kid looks like he can run. He's got a great frame. His hips are fluid. I think his issues are coaching related. He's unpolished as hell but this kid has the making of a player that could be stowed away for a redshirt/freshman/sophomore year and will look totally different by the time he's a junior and starts getting meaningful PT. Sam style LB's who can play over the TE, jam them at the LOS, turn and run with them in coverage are hard to find. As much as I hate use this comparison, Davis' frame and hips remind me a little bit of Akeem Ayers from UCLA. Ayers was much more highly regard his senior year, but they had essential the same frame, 6'2", 215lbs. Now Ayers is 6'4" 255 and a popular player to be drafted in the 1st or 2nd round because of his athletic abiltiy for such a big player.

Trick plays. I want him for trick plays. We never do any cool trick plays, other than tricking our own kickers, which doesn't count.

This caption is interesting. If he barely got the punt off, is this photo before or after that happened? It looks like it's still on the drop.

If he punted through that other player, it would be impressive.

NCSA did a nice job of editing a tape on Davis (identified with an arrow before each play):

The kid has a nice build and you can see him display a second gear. I can see why the staff likes him. He's rough fundamentally but there is potential there.

Rivals just singled Davis out nationally as one of five guys who don't have any offers right now but should end up with a bunch of D1 offers:

Davis picked up a CSU offer. My guess is that they'll land him if we don't offer.

Now rated a 3* on Rivals.

I'm hoping he shows well at CU this week and gets an offer. He was supposed to be there for camp.

No real chatter about this kid recently, but curious how his senior campaign went, and if he's still a guy that we'd be interested in. From the comments above it looks like he'd need some development, but has a good frame and decent athleticism. With Norgard moving to FB, we could use some LB recruits, and this kid seems like he's just waiting for CU to offer.
