"The first time we went up there we couldn't get everything in so I think this time we will get to look into more of the details of their program," said Thurston, who earned second-team all-league honors as a sophomore last fall. "I think they have a great program at CU. I like what they had to say about everything. I think there are some good things in store for them in the future."

Thurston had a great showing at the Buffaloes' Friday Night Lights Elite Camp and has received a verbal offer from CU with a promise that a written offer will be sent as soon as NCAA rules permit.

Thurston is a very important target for the Buffs in 2012. We'll be losing as many as 8 OLs to graduation.

    Offer still good.

Mustoe will likely help us a lot here. I think we've got a great shot at landing Thurston next year.

Thurston recently picked up his second offer from Stanford. I think he likely gets double-digit BCS offers before it is all over. Really like our chances here.

I think we are in a really good spot with Thurston. Would not be surprised if he is an early commit.

Today's Rivals update backs this up.

"When I compare other schools to Colorado, Colorado has a little more edge over them just because I haven't been out to too many other places. I've been up there a couple times so I know CU and I've met with the coaches so that's a big advantage I'd say."

I'm always a bit weary of getting into a recruiting battle with Stanford.

It is a legit concern. But we really should win this one. Stanford has offered several OT prospects nationally, while our coaches only have to travel 30 minutes to talk to Thurston. If they get him up to Boulder a couple times this spring (and I see no reason this will not happen), I like our chances.

Also, unless I am mistaken, Stanford does not currently have an OL coach on the new staff yet.

    Wrong.

Let's put it this way - how many places would you choose over CU if you could go there for free? I don't care who the coach is.

stanford was awful before harbaugh. i understand you have a huge chubby for their education, but their football team didn't scare anyone before harbaugh.

Bob, I really do not see Stanford going away under Shaw. There might be a step back, but I think Shaw helped Harbaugh change the culture around there and they will continue to be a force in recruiting.

If we are going to be successful in recruiting, the new coaching staff is going to have to earn it.

A CU education does not carry the same weight as a Stanford education but it is also not K-State. CU has a huge amount of other things to offer that are and can be used as selling points including the advantages of being in Boulder.

Shaw may be a very good coach but the difference between being highly ranked and being just okay is often not huge. Harbaugh had a way of selling recruits that few people have, he was also a very good coach who managed a very good staff. Shaw can be good but still slip back into the program being good but not great quickly, lose a couple of top assistants and you slide some more.

Big thing for CU is to shop recruits that the program is now on the right track and that wins are on the way. For a guy like Thurston this could be an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of what can be a highly successfull program. He can also get a quality education and at the same time be far enough from home to be his own person but close enough to go for Sunday dinner. That can be a huge advantage to a kid.

Found Thurston's sophomore and junior highlights. (Obviously, you can watch some of Mustoe on here, too.)

Thurston should be the #1 rated offensive linemen in the state of CO. Better feet, better bend, better leverage, and he looks like he could easily add 20-30 more pounds losing minimal speed or quickness. Very impressive highlight tapes.

Thurston may end up being the #1 rated prospect. Miles' rating is going to depend on whether he does some camps and comes away with people saying "quarterback" instead of "athlete".

Thurston is pretty much a can't miss OL prospect, though. I'd be shocked if he came to CU and wasn't at least a 2-year starter. He's probably a 3 year guy.

I think there is a decent chance Thurston ends up the #1 prospect in Colorado, regardless of what Miles does. In a big year for OL out west, he is going to get a lot of attention.

In the 2011 class, I considered Willingham the must-get Colorado prospect. For 2012, I think it is Thurston.

Thurston has three year starting LT written all over him. In the west coast offense, it will be imperative that we find a backside blocker to keep the heat off the QB going through his progressions.

Thurston is a MUST grab. He's the guy you want on your roster, and not on a rival's. Premium LT's are hard to find.

I agree on Thurston, Boulder. He's becoming my favorite in-state prospect. And I didn't think I'd be all that high on this year's Colorado class, but there are at least 5 guys I want. That number could go as high as 8 depending on how some linemen develop.

Also, Paul Thurston's Oline coach, and Uncle (I think), is Guy Thurston. Guy Thurston lettered at Guard for CU in 1979 and 1980 before transferring to SMU.
