By putting the game in Las Vegas, it accomplishes a # of goals. First, it ensures that what happens with ACC game will NOT happen with 12Pac game -- it ensures a great turnout. Second, it captures the Las Vegas market, which is the largest non-Pac market in the Western USA. Third, it avoids the unfair situation of having a participant host the championship game. Fourth, it's cheap to get to. Fifth, it's Vegas!!!!!!

Problem is that Boyd Stadium is a bit of a dump. It can be updated/remodeled, though, and the setting would make the 12 Pac championship instantly stand out from the crowd.

    Make it happen, Larry Scott.

Seating capacity is less than 40,000. Would that fly?

If it was just gonna be held at one site, then this would make the most sense, but like you said the stadium needs to be renovated. The new stadium in Phoenix would be next imo.

We'd have to get Las Vegas to expand stadium. I'm guessing they would IF they had a long-term commit to play the game there.

That, right there, is your problem. If Vegas can pony up the cash to remodel/expand to at least 60,000 seats, this plan might have wings. Otherwise, the Pac-12 isn't going to put on it's showcase in a 40,000 seat dump.

Economically speaking, do you think the Pac would want to upgrade the facility for one game a year? Also, the NFL doesn't host the Super Bowl there for various reasons, do you think the Pac has those same reasons? I do.

I don't think that the Pac Championship will be held in Las Vegas.

The problem is that I don't think a Utah/Oregon State game in Santa Clara will sell seats, and we'll be embarassed because we look like the ACC. By putting the game in Vegas we eliminate a huge part of that risk.

Utah vs Oregon State is not going to sell seats anywhere.

That's like saying Baylor vs ISU isn't going to fill Jerryworld. Yeah, no ****.

My guess is LA. The Pac basketball tournament is there every year.

It's not very hard to come up with a scenario where the 12 Pac championship game fails to draw a crowd to Santa Clara. It's difficult to come up with a scenario where Texas/OU doesn't play in the Big 12 championship game which will lead to a crowd in Jerryland. I think Vegas is fun, unique, and fits in well with a new 12Pac. But what do I know?

When does Chip Brown at orangeboob.com report that the 12Pac championship would be played in Dallas at Jerryworld?

    The Vegas idea is great.
I could live with San Diego, too.

A case could be made for Phoenix and SLC, based on geography.

I suspect it will bounce around NFL stadiums in California or Arizona, but not Denver or Seattle.

I'd like it to rotate between the NFL stadiums in San Diego, Phoenix & San Francisco. You could make a case for Seattle but the weather may be a determining factor to nix that thought.

Conference championship games are very difficult to draw a crowd to because plans usually have to be made in less than a week's time. Tickets are generally sold to sponsors anyway. If the game is not within driving distance of the teams playing, you are going to have a low turnout.

I'd do it in San Diego with a promise to Las Vegas that if they make necessary improvements to Sam Boyd Stadium that it is going to be the future site of the game.

I would really prefer that the game is at a neutral site that is also a good travel destination.

Las Vegas wouldn't bother me. Not that CU is going to be playing in that particular game anytime soon, but still... I like the idea.

Las Vegas sucks. It should be in Cali, if it has to be a fixed spot. Or it should rotate through the many NFL stadiums in the conference.

One thing to consider is the importance of keeping both San Diego and Las Vegas as PAC markets, especially if the MWC gets its BCS status.

Vegas is within a reasonable drive from 8 of the 12 teams in the league. It wouldn't be the end of the world to have it in Vegas. No flying required = better attendance. Still, there would need to be some serious upgrades to the facility. And it probably shouldn't be there permanently. I wouldn't mind it being there on a rotating basis. Remember when the Big 12 rotated it's championship game? Yeah, I remember that, too.

The list for locations to play the CCG is long and distinguished. This is how I would rank locations:

1 - Phoenix @ U of Phoenix stadium (kind of funny)
    2 - San Diego @ Qualcomm
    3 - Pasadena @ Rose Bowl
    4 - Santa Clara @ 49ers stadium (2014 and later
    5 - Seattle @ Qwest field
    6 - Denver @ Mile High
    7 - Oakland @ Raider stadium (it’s a dump, but an option)
8 - Las Vegas – this would only fly if they expand to 65,000 which would require a long term commitment from the Pac-12

I think a good idea that I've seen floated around is to have it at the highest ranked (by conference record) team's home stadium. Yes, it would mean home field advantage, but it would also guarantee to be a sell-out anywhere, making the atmosphere much better than at some neutral site NFL stadium. If the two teams have identical conference record, then a tie-breaker could be BCS standing or something.

    Just a thought.

Now that I think about it, LA is probably out. I don't see it at the Coliseum and because the winner of the CCG will go to the Rose Bowl, it doesn't make sense to have it there either. I like the idea of having the CCG at the highest ranked team's home stadium.

I think you have to rotate. Lot's of quality locations and cities out there that could deserve a shot. Only problem with Denver or Washington during the winter will be inclement weather.

Probably won't happen, but I'd love to see every team play one conference game in Vegas every season.

Think about it, if we play 9 conference games that means half the conference gets 5 home games while the other half only gets 4. You could play 4 at home, 4 on the road, and 1 in Vegas every year. It would be on the schedule every year, so you could plan ahead for your road trip, and you could justify upgrading the stadium if there were 6 Pac 10 games played there every year. You could market the **** out of it - play it on a friday night, so you'd have a Pac 10 friday night game of the week every couple weeks from Vegas. TV would love it, and I think it would be well attended. It would be great for recruiting too.

My vote goes to the home city of the higher ranked team. Reward winning! Would love to see it in Mile High from time to time too!
