Solid football player. Love that we are making a concerted effort to recruit the greater Houston area again. Does not hurt to make some connections at the high school that just won the 5A Division 1 championship last year either.

I wonder if he's related to Darrell Ehrlich. Similar features, hmmm. If so, his pops was a pretty good FB in his day. Darrell signed with Univ. of Houston, so the kid being in Pearland makes it a fair guess....

I really like this kid. Love how aggressive he is. I really don't understand what we're doing on defense, though. He looks like a pretty prototypical 4-3 OLB to me, but we have numerous offers out to guys that look like prototypical 3-4 OLBs. This is the kind of guy that will probably be successful regardless of scheme fit, but it does concern me a little with our front 7 recruiting.

Side note: I was curious who else were the top players on his team last year and... Dustin Garrison was their one man offense. :sad2: I really feel like we missed out big time on him, West Virginia got a good one.

I like the aggressiveness! White, (or anyone who cares to answre) not to get away from a recruit thread, but what's the difference between 3-4 and 4-3 backers?

My quite uneducated take on it is that you basically want guys at OLB that are very big and can pass rush well since they're the main sack artists on the defense. You also want one, although preferably both, to be able to set the edge against TEs or FBs or even pulling linemen. Usually that's your strongside linebacker. The weakside guy is normally the sack machine. The MLBs also seem to be very big since there's only 3 DL to eat up blocks so they need to be really good at getting off of blocks and remain stout. Brady Daigh looks to me to be a prototypical MLB in a 3-4.

Other guys we have offered that strike me as 3-4 OLBs are: Kyle Kelley, Jeremy Castro, Bryce Cottrell, and one of the Utah kids. We also seem to be after some very large DEs which is also what is required in a 3-4. I'm assuming of course that we're speaking hypothetically about a pro style 34, not sure if there's a college version of it or whatever.

Baylor comes up in every single interview. I'll be surprised if he doesn't commit there.

I hate Baylor. Seriously what are these kids thinking? It's Baylor! Waco! Baylor! They're going to be so crappy when Robert Griffin leaves, ugh.

SMU sucks too, just a lot less than Baylor. I'd be hard pressed to name a school that I'd prefer Baylor over.

Nebraska and their self-congratulatory fanbase will always be my most hated college football program. Always, without exception. Having said that, I think I hate Baylor more.

In a 3-4, your ILB's will have to take on more blockers, in a 4-3 the single ILB has to cover more ground so you want someone quick. 3-4 ILB = Matt Russell, 4-3 ILB = Jordon Dizon. Depending on how the 3-4 is played, you need pass rushers at one or both OLB spots. If you have two (Alfred & Kanavis), even better because you can send one or both of them to pressure the QB with the other one dropping back in coverage on passing downs. If one or both of your ILB's are capable of getting pressure up the middle, then you have the makings of a 3-4 zone blitz. The O-line doesn't know who to block pre-snap, and the QB doesn't know who's dropping back in coverage.

Clay Norgard would be a perfect fit for a 3-4.

+1 on what WR says about big DE's. You want bigger guys all the way across the DL. You don't need as many DL, but they need to be studs.

Actually, you can plug either type of player into either type of defense depending on what the philosophy is that is trying to be accomplished. In a Tampa 2 4-3, you do want someone that can run and drop to the apex of the field...but, Matt Russell won the Butkus playing in a different style of 4-3 defense (he obviously fit into that defense). In the 3-4, you have 2 ILB's...often times, you have a bigger body that can take on centers and guards...but the the weak side ILB often can run and chase down plays from the back side.

So you're saying Baylor is a high school team. I see what you did there.

If we're really talking about those two as my only options, I'd rather just not go to college. Probably would join the Navy and get coffee for wally all day long as he surfs allbuffs.

I don't want to be a dick but we had a base 4-3 after '93. The only year Russell played in the 3-4 was '93. Also, I think when you guys are talking about 3-4 D-ends, you are talking about 5 techniques which are really more DT's. Outside LB's in a 3-4 are end types like Alfred and Kanavis. Hell, I lettered at a 5 technique in '93 and you certainly did not want me dropping into coverage. I agree that it is much easier to disguise blitz's in a 3-4 and guys like Greg Brown have to love it from an aggressive pass pressure perspective. I for one, would love to see us go to it. The key to the 3-4 is the Noseguard though. Think Kyle Rapold and Joel Steed!

Steed was awesome. Maybe the most underrated player ever at CU. The guy was just phenominal.

funny thing is his mom and uncle both went to baylor, and his great grandmothers, great grandfather was Judge Baylor (the co. founder of baylor) so i think it there alil more to do with it then just football.

OL16, welcome to allbuffs. You seem really knowledgeable about Kendall. Is he still a Baylor commit? How solid? Relatives aside.

So, are you telling me that if his mom and uncle both went to 'braska, and his great grandmothers, great grandfather was Tom Osborne, he'd go to 'braska?
