Vanderdoes plays for a smaller school outside of Sacramento, but will be one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the country. As a junior, he had 59 tackles and 8 sacks.

An early favorite is Oregon and he has stated several times that he wants to play in the PAC-12. Watch out for the Huskies here with Lupoi.

The upper central valley and Sierra foothills area is throwing out some major talent, Shaq Thompson, Armstead, JCF, Rodriguez, Rios just to name a few. There is not one major player for the talent here in regards to schools and if CU could assert themselves, could be a major windfall of talent. Lupoi has been the only guy consistently in the area. I think could be a natural fit for kids as the topigraphy and weather is pretty similar to Boulder.

BTW, this kid is a beast.

I have to say it is hard to really evaluate this prospect, since it seems on almost every play he makes in his video, he goes basically unblocked by the opponent. They run a lot of stunts up front, and he has a nice swim move (which seldom works at the next level) and it leaves him running free a lot. I would like to see more video where he is forced to take on and beat blocks (Something I saw a lot out of Hennington for example, and left me thinking that he is going to be a VERY good player for us). That said, he runs well and has a good motor....I like that.

BC, not really sure what you are looking at here. There are attempts to block him, they just can't do it! Placer doesn't play against the best competition, think they are a level 3 HS or however they state it but the film rolls at the same rate as any other and the guys speed, quickness and agility is off the charts. The guy is super explosive, plays with explosive strength and has excellent closing speed at the DT/DE spot.

The guy looks like a man out there amongst boys. Most good to great recruits do.

I am not sure you realize it, but you are basically saying the same thing that I am. I am not being negative about this kid in the least, only saying that it is hard to evaluate him in my opinion. I never said that they didn't try to block him, just that he is never blocked in his highlight tape (in part because of the competition, and partly because their defense runs a lot of games and movement up front).

At the next level, everyone is explosive and strong, and he will be blocked. He will almost never run free like you see in this video, so to continue to be a playmaker at the next level, he will need to play much stronger with his hands and play with good leverage in order to beat OL across their face and make a play....something that he may be entirely capable of, but I see almost no instances where he is forced to play like this. This is what is (IMO) making it hard to truly evaluate him vs. other prospects with similar athleticism. Again, I am only commenting on the above video. Maybe there is other tape out there from camps or something.

But, how does he play against superior competition? When in adverse physical situations? I don't think you'll find out until he is at the next level. Saying all of that, I would gladly take him because the measurables are there and he plays with a good motor.

AZ posted solid info on Vanderdoes. I think we're in it.

I'm out in the Central Valley/Sacramento area. I think if CU was to focus here, there could be a great resonance between this area and the Colorado area for recruits. i think a lot of kids would leave feeling comfortable, like it's an extension of home between the mountainous areas and pretty natural surroundings. That's especially true for a town like Placer.

He just visited Cal and will be at the Oregon Spring game this weekend.

Oh and I am not sure if it was mentioned here, but one of the main reasons Oregon is his leader is because one of his best friends is Arik Armstead.

CD - Do you know what the class size is looking like for the Ducks this year?

I did a quick search on Rivals, and they have you down for the last four classes with 21 (2012), 23 (2011), 24 (2010) and 26 (2009). That's 68 in the last 3, so I was assuming that even with some attrition you'd still be looking at a smaller class once any in-transfers, scholarship grants to walk ons, and 2009 redshirts (5th year seniors) were factored in for 2013.

The consensus was that the class would be 15ish, but losing 3 guys to career ending injuries has bumped it up to 18. I expect when NSD comes around the Ducks can take 20 with people leaving due to grades and injuries. Then again last year was only expected to be a class of 18 and the Ducks found ways to take on a few extra kids. The hardest part of figuring out how many Oregon can take is that Coach Kelly does not release much information to the public.

The main target for Oregon this year is RB and they are hoping for 2-3. Tyner counts as 1 and sounds as though the Ducks are leading for Dontre Wilson now. Outside of that I have no idea what Oregon plans on doing with its offers.

If I could request a home run recruit for the 2013 class, it would be this kid. Probably not going to happen, but I'd like to see us in on some 5 star talent soon. I could see how an elite WR could see the opportunity as long as we have a good QB.

But OL and DL will be my #1 priority until we are solid enough to start adding elite talent behind them.

Look for them to take up to 5 more... They will be closer to 18 than 15 when it's done.

Their only 4 stars and above because they committed to USC. If these kids committed to CU, they would all be 2 and 3.

Umm... False. Let's not start that. I agree that some kids get a 4th star when they commit to a school like SC. But that doesn't really seem to be the case for USC this year. Vanderdoes has been a huge recruit for a while. USC is a huge destination for top recruits. I can't hate on them for that. I'm jealous as hell and wish could get back to that ASAP.

False. Especially the skill positions. Even just looking at pictures of our recruits vs. their recruits, we look like an elementary recess team compared to the grown, athletic men they are fielding. Maybe when our players are juniors or seniors they will look like that, maybe.. We have a long way to go to catch up though.

    But he's also a 5* on 247. They now have four 5*'s on 247.
