    When a kid's listed height includes a 0.25", I assume it means he's 3" shorter than what's listed.

How confident are we that the sheep have mastered the application of measuring tape technology?

Measuring tapes are in important part of the fibers industry. So I think we can assume they've mastered the art...

Lets not forget they have a practice field that is only 70 yards long.

If we can get him to do this would be an excellent candidate. Dominated but at a lower level of football. HS coach who coached against him told me that the speed is legit and that he is a very good athlete. Solidly built could develop into an excellent safety. Didn't tell me about how accurate the height is but said the kid is physically pretty mature so limited potential for future weight gain although he is pretty solid already. Again all this is from a guy who was on the other sideline so just impressions.

The height and weight, as stated earlier, is accurate, it was done on a visit to CSU over the weekend.

I'm delighted to give a qualified candidate a pwo.

Also, I'm understanding that his height might be as much as .14 inches over what's listed on his profile.

Doing some research, this kid played like a total stud. He absolutely dominated 3A the last 2 years. He had 3000 rushing yards (11 ypc) and 50 TDs this season alone - 43 rushing TDs, 2 punt return TDs, 2 Int return TDs, 3 Receiving TDs. He reminds me of Orms. Given all of the "must get the best in-state talent" fervor here, I would think folks on this forum would be very excited to get him.

One issue with previous staffs is that they wouldn't even look at most in-state prospects below 4A competition no matter how much their HS coaches tried to lobby CU. It's a welcome change of pace if the new staff is taking time to listen to CO coaches and go to another level of evaluation depth. This is an area where football can take a lesson from basketball. Tad takes the time for the in-state coaches. He may not be able to offer many of the players, but if he sees something he likes in a local kid he at least passes the tape along and puts a good word in with a program below the Big 6 conference level.

I saw this kid in person when Silver Creek beat Rifle in the state playoffs. They pretty much out game-planned Rifle and shut down Moeller, but it was pretty clear he is a stud. I wasn't sure myself if he was a can't miss prospect, but he certainly looked D1 capable as an athlete. The true test is you get him in a camp or a setting where you can at least do some 7 vs 7 and you can evaluate him against some other D1 kids. He didn't see many of those during High School. Makes evaluation tricky.

He's in the mold of what MacIntyre seems to be going after big time. Guys that are in the region of at least 6'0" and 195 and can run. RBs, TEs, LBs, Safeties? For sure, special team guys. We've been blowing redshirts like crazy on guys who are only getting in as True Frosh on coverage teams.

And to a large extent still sucked.

Kid like this has no downside. He is as big and fast as other kids we are giving schollies to. The PWO doesn't cost you a scholly, any kid who does a PWO isn't coming in with a superstar mentality, he will be willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field even if this means switching positions and learning new stuff.

If he even can turn into a ST contributor and depth guy we are ahead. It also shows other Colorado kids that CU is willing to give them a look and a shot. If he plays the whole west slope of the state will pay attention and support him. Western CO doesn't produce a lot of players but it would be nice if we could lock up the ones it does in the future and this could help.

It still hurts that the last staff lost Austin Berk out of GJ. CU legacy who couldn't get an offer, but got one from McElwhatever. His linemate James Diamanti also ended up at Wyo.

IMO... We need guys like this who are willing to work their ass off for the opportunity. If the only reason we have a shot at a higher rated player is for playing time, we end up getting a bunch of selfish "me first" type of players which will only hurt the team. Give me guys like Moeller, Reed and Severson who will out work the entitled "me first" types because they appreciate the opportunity more. We will not be the most talented team on the field, but as long as I see our team busting their ass all game, I'll be proud. But that mentality is what is going to lead us out of this hole we're in, not getting recruits solely on the promise of PT.

Of course I understand that we'll need top talent to compete for the PAC12, but we aren't getting those guys now. So I'll settle for guys who'll run through a wall for their coach. CU needs an attitude adjustment and I hope that we see major differences in the mentalities of the players this year. I agree with Mike Mac's approach so far and I like what he's shown to be as a gameday coach.

You know we're hurting for athletic talent when we get all hot and bothered over a potential PWO who might run a 4.45.

My only point is to say that if the ONLY reason we can land a better rated recruit is to promise them PT, then I don't want that player. I think that is Mike Mac's strategy as well and 100% agree with him.

When HCMM shows some good results on the field this year (how can it be worse?), he'll be able to catch the ear of some higher level '14 recruits.

If not, well then **** me.

For what it’s worth, I live in Rifle & watched Ryan play numerous times. I believe he’s a legit D-1 talent and a solid kid. His senior year, he had 3,000+ yards & 50 TD’s, and only 1 fumble. Before the title game, Rifle outscored the opposition 579 - 75, and Ryan didn’t get much action in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] half of many games. I’d hate to see him in green because I’d bet he will have a productive career at the next level.
    Cheers & Go Buffs.

Haven't seen him play. I'm good with digging for some gems and doing things differently. Especially when it comes to in-state players.

Evaluating small school guys is no easy task, but writing all of them off because they might not pan out is stupid and arrogant. There used to be a handful on the roster most every year - some panned out, some didn't. The last two coaches didn't bother. Two that I personally know are Mark Henry (who played 8-man) and Keith Miller (6-man), both started and contributed to very good teams - there a many others. Part of what makes some small town kids different is work-ethic and humility.

If a pwo eventually turns into a scholarship for this young man, great. If not, it's not like he's a huge gamble compared to the rest of this year's class.

I love the fact that he is a Colorado kid.

I don't understand the recruiting process as well as many of you, but regardless how this kid may develop at the college level, would he EVER have had a chance to be a highly ranked recruit? What recruiting services spend time on the western slope? any film on him would be discounted due to the competition. There would not be the same assumptions made of starters at his school that would be made of starters at Mater Dei or De La Salle. Personally, I think that the staff should use the evaluation of in state kids to their advantage and if you are going to take a flier, let it be a Colorado kid.

I am not excusing the recruiting of highly ranked recruits, we must do better, but I do acknowledge that they don't all work out either.

I assume you'd be much happier with the Embree and EB model of promising PT to recruits? So we end up with a bunch of selfish players and a ****** locker room. Embree must be one hell of a coach then? Oh wait.. He got fired after two years because his program had completely crumbled.

Someone who seemed close to Moeller posted yesterday that he just landed an FCS offer that may change things. Maybe UNC?
