ColoradoPrepReport (Rivals) interview with Lisella about last year's 5A state championship:

Columbine lineman John Lisella may not garner many headlines but this junior is an impact player. He opened some huge holes last fall for a team that ended up taking home the Class 5A state championship.

Lacrosse has been the focus this spring and it is something that Lisella feels has helped him as a football player.

"As a lineman, you lose a little weight but it definitely works your feet and helps your agility. You are running, moving, stopping, and starting. It really helps my football workouts."

Honorable mention 2012 All-Foothills League in lacrosse: http://www.maxpreps.com/news/m10Q3GnxHEqMXuVTonsuNQ/colorado-all-league-lacrosse-teams.htm

First team 2012 All-Conference OL for football: http://www.columbinecourier.com/content/all-conference-football-teams

    Commitment article from Rivals (6/16/12):

"CU told me they love my athletic ability," Lisella said. "I am a big guy but I am pretty fast. I have really quick feet. I play lacrosse and that helps with my footwork. They said they love how I can move and pull so they can see me playing any of the five offensive line positions up there. We run all the time at Columbine, we don't pass much, but I think my pass blocking skills will develop pretty quickly in college once they teach me technique because I have great feet."

Solid footwork can make or break a linemen. Sounds like a solid pickup.

Got to be one of the skinniest looking 245 lbers I can remember seeing. Lots of room to put on weight. Also very young looking. The kids with a full beard usually don't grow much more, this kid looks like he has at least a couple of years of growing left in him.

Would be a very good candidate for a grayshirt. Also the AFA offer would indicate that academics aren't a question.

I'll post this here. Like i said in the other thread but i know John pretty well. He played baseball his first couple years and last year was his first year of lacrosse. Very athletic and he is still growing. His parents are also tall so I'm sure he will still grow. He takes AP classes very smart. We know nate solder so when my dad first met him his frame reminded him of Nate. Nate also was tall and lanky given he was a tight end. He will put on some weight as long as he lays off the salad. His nickname is lisalad. He has already talked to me about staying with me some next year and going to the games. He loves the university and has lots of potential.

Stop. The recruiting forum is not a smack board and your act is wearing very thin.

(Consider this is a last warning)

You posted this as I was reporting. If ever something deserved deleting it is crap like this in a recruits thread, especially considering the source.

Another light recruit who turned out to be a good tackle for CU was Derrick West. Hopefully Lisella not only gains the pounds, but another inch or two up. I'm good with this if the feet are as good as reported. Welcome to the Buffs, John.

If he turns into another Derrick West I will never question the coaching staff again on under the radar guys. For now he needs to become a Derrick West type of eater and put on the size.

I watched most of the 1st half of the state championship game. Thoughts are:

    - Lots of room to add weight.
    - VERY quick feet. The first Columbine TD comes on a quick pitch outside where JL has to pull into the alley. 2 defenders vs. JL and the HB and they made nice moves/blocks on the way to the end zone. It's at minute 57 of the stream.
    - Has some nice drive blocking ability already. Hell, that's all Columbine does is run counter, power and iso plays up the middle.
    - In terms of blocking, he has a variety that he's already used in HS which will help him on the next level including down blocks, dbl teams, pulling, quick pitch kick out plays and ISO blocks. It will fit nicely with the run offense we would like to implement.
    - Can play all five spots on the line. I see him as a quick or LG. Could play LT but pass blocking will need to be repetitiously taught to him. Not much experience with that yet.
    - His technique is not great.
    - Needs to use his hands better. Right now he's a shoulder blocker... a feeler. If he used his shoulder ripped and got his hands in there he could get more definitive space for the ball carrier and the hole. It's fairly easy to learn.

Overall, the kid has talent. It's pretty obvious to see.

Berti & west both came to CU tall and lanky. Both left to the NFL over 300.

I think it was the state game that put him on the map. It was his coming out party of sorts and I hope that this is a game to progress from.

Like it when Buffs players are unranked because Rivals and Scout can't drop them any lower

Good film. I can see what the coaches liked about him vs some of the other in state kids. Still tough to call, but obviously there is potential there.
