Just saw a tweet on BuffZone that a 2013 kid by the name of Robert Orban from Regis HS in Colorado is going to be a Buff. Looks like he goes about 6'7" and played TE. Anybody know anything about this guy?

    From Scout in May 2012:

6-7 receivers with soft hands and the ability to catch in traffic are a rare commodity. 6-7 receivers, with soft hands and a 32 on their ACT are unheard of....

Last season Orban was a top receiver for Regis pulling in 17 catches. Possessing very soft hands Orban is effective with the ball after the catch. Also, at 210 pounds Orban is very thin, but he is a willing blocker on the line of scrimmage or down field.

Orban is an Ivy League legacy as his father played for Harvard in the early 80s.

Orban wants to be versatile player that can block on the line, play from the slot and make catches in the redzone.

    ***************

I found his senior stats at the Denver Post and it looks like he led the team with 8 catches for 85 yards and 1 TD. Team just doesn't throw, I guess.

Rep to anyone who can find out whether Orban is walking on, will be on scholarship in the fall, or accepted a grayshirt offer to enroll next January.

    Post count?

I'm guessing that it is a PWO. Looks like a good fit. He will have the opportunity to come into a program in transition so he won't have to deal with guys being established in the coaches eyes. His size and good hands could be a great fit for the pistol offense. Also sounds like the kind of student who is going to come out of CU with an education and a solid future no matter how football turns out for him.

    Welcome

    Orban will be a PWO.

"While Penn, Harvard, Colorado School of Mines, Northern Colorado and South Dakota State were also options, the 6-foot-6, 210 pound tight end from Regis Jesuit said that the final decision came down to Colorado or Montana State."

Some great stuff in that interview. We're gonna like this kid.

Last few years we have been giving schollies to guys with Harvard and Penn offers.

Playing lacrosse probably indicates that he is a pretty decent athlete overall.

He is. He's a short-stick, which means he's got some hand-eye coordination. I remember him from a year or two ago and remember thinking this kid has some size and good coordination. Needs some Milk Shakes though!

I of course don´t know the whole story but it seems like HCMM is true to his word and making inoads into Colorado. I know this guy didn´t get 12 BCS offers, nor a scholly from us, but he is talented enough and smart enough to get offers from schools like Harvard and he bypassed several full-ride offers to join CU as a PWO.

I could be wrong but I don´t remember this happening frequently with JE or DH. This is at least our 2nd known PWO in this scenario.

Embree deserves some credit here. He made sure Orban had tickets to all our home games. He was definitely good about that. Or maybe a lot of that credit goes to Hagan and that's why DH remains in his position?

Really happy with the 2 PWOs under HCMM's watch so far. Both have upside and the ability to contribute.

FWIW, in today's chat Kyle just called out Orban as maybe the best TE of the group in practices so far:

I had totally forgotten about him.
