'14 CA WR Shay Fields (Signed to COLORADO)

Visiting CU, TCU and Cal the next three weekends. Surprised Washington isn't more in the mix since Peterson liked him while at Boise.

Well, with him mentioning the depth chart being most important, then we here at CU are a lock.

I think that it may depend on what happens to 5 star CB Adoree Jackson. USC is recruiting him as a WR and if he goes there, I believe we may get Fields. If not, I bet he sticks with them.

I noticed the depth chart item as well. My guess is that's what is causing him to look around from USC is that Sark probably told him he'd be buried for a while..

Wouldn't call it a lock though. Most important is a big deal, but doesn't mean it's his sole decision criteria.

As someone who obviously hopes that Duff is wrong it's worth noting that the depth chart at BSU for the WR position is actually pretty thin right now and that Shay is friends with incoming BSU wide receiver A.J. Richardson.

Right now the BSU QB situation kind of sucks. With Nick Patti transferring, we're down to TWO QBs on the BSU roster with one being a senior. Two 4* QB prospects, Miami commit Brad Kaaya and former Vandy commit K.J. Carta-Samuels are giving BSU a close look and planning on official visits.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the factors here is who is going to be around to throw the ball to Fields. If something changes on the QB front, you could see things get shaken up a bit.

Alternatively all of this could just be wishful thinking on my part!

Holy ****. Are you saying that CU has a better QB situation than another team? Times, they are a changing.

Update from 247's Justin Hopkins.
"Boise State is recruiting me the hardest of all the schools. They are good guys and hitting me up all of the time with messages and stuff. Colorado is right behind them with interest. I'd actually have to say Colorado is my top choice after USC right now, but it's pretty tight."

If USC whiffs on Jackson I still doubt they go after Fields

I think the net takeaway here is that one of our two schools is about to get an absolute stud of a commit. If Fields was two or three inches taller he'd probably be a national recruit IMO. Of all the BSU decommits this year, this is the one that I want back the most.

If it ends up being you guys who land him (and that looks likely), congratulations in advance.

Good luck!

SC has 19 spots. They are after a lot of kids they are waiting on. My only concern is if they strike out. Other than that, kid will be a Buff barring a serious shift in the next few weeks

BSU skill positions are a mess right now. Pete left them with no QB depth chart and not what they are used to.

It sounds like USC hasn't made Fields a priority, so he in turn has moved on from them as well. Even if USC misses on Jackson, I think fields would spurn them. Receivers like being THE man. USC has made it very clear that is not the case here

Very few slots left for their class this year and USC leads for several better receivers in 2015.

Why is he still committed to them?

Fields' cousin Bryce Treggs also attended St. John Bosco and had very similar stats in HS. They are also just about the same size so a decent (not great by any means) idea on production for Fields in year one can be made by Treggs frosh stats at Cal:

21 receptions 216 yards and 1 TD
Soph: 77 receptions 751 yards and 1 TD.

twitter is such a weird medium when it comes to NCAA infractions. There is no way they can enforce anything but 'boosters" should probably stay clear of it just in case.

This is so true. Unfortunately a lot of prospects don't know that tweets violate the no contact rule for prospects and openly ask for fans to "show them love" and the like. Puts knowledgeable fans in a bit of a pickle. Commit a secondary recruiting violation (that is completely unenforceable) to pump up your school in the mind of the recruit or avoid the violation and risk the prospect thinking you don't have a dedicated fanbase.

One of those areas that I wish the NCAA would come up with some better policies around. I don't ever tweet at recruits personally as I don't want to get either my school OR THE RECRUIT in trouble, but can't really blame the folks who do.

CU fans at our best would be maybe 5% of what goes on with sec or high profile programs. Our tweets may be at the very bottom of my concerns.
