There's a video of his track highlights. Looks like he ran:

    100M: 11.45
    200M: 22.68
    400M: 52.99

The 200 m time isn't bad as compared to the other two - they're pedestrian at best for a linebacker (not good for a db). 400 m times don't translate to much on the football field, but you're able to tell if the athlete was dogging it or if they're in excellent physical shape or not.

In HS, my 400 time was 4 seconds greater than my 100 time x 4, so he was dogging it, IMO.

Then again, I was so slow I still would have been in his rearview by a significant margin in all 3!

Our coaches scouted him at the All-Poly camp. We've got a listed 4.7 forty, ESPN reports a 4.81, and we have those official track times. As much as our staff emphasizes speed, they must have seen something very different in person. Because the numbers we have seen are what we'd want to see from a strongside DE in the Pac-12.

He does show some closing speed, and some big time ball hawking skills. His aggression will both piss off and excite who ever he ends up playing for. High risk high reward type of defender in terms on plays on the ball.

    HUDL shows a 4.59 40 time.

Not a bad video. He wraps up his tackles well, doesn't stop. Looks faster in the video than the 40 times published on Rivals and ESPN.

Playing primarily as a lockdown corner as a senior, Sanchez recorded 35 tackles, 14 pass break ups and three interceptions. He won league in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.6-seconds as a junior, and also clocked in at 11.41-seconds in the 100-meter dash during track season last spring.

So what you are saying is that, the numbers show his stats may be a bit out of date. Late bloomer? His ball hawking skills are great, if he can pick up a little more speed he would be an even better commit.

For some perspective, I did a quick google of Colorado state meets.

2012, 22.6 time earns him 4th at Colorado 5A state (just ahead of Gavin McHenry) and .2 ahead of Kallen Ballage's time in the 4A state meet and .33 seconds ahead of McCaffrey's 4A time. Also saw the 3A times for Ryan Moeller (11.19 and 22.71), a Frosh walkon from Rifle.

11.41 100M would have had him 16th in the prelims and failing to qualify for the finals.

Of course, track surfaces are different, wind, altitude, etc. But it's enough to ascertain that the boy's track times confirm he's pretty fast. Maybe not CB fast but probably fast enough.

As many have observed with Moeller or Severson this year, it's about more than straight ahead, full speed. Would be interested in his agility numbers, his standing jump #. He does display fluid hips, which is a trademark of agility.

More than quick enough to be a safety, especially with his ability to correctly judge closing angles.
