Not sure exactly what the situation is here. On 247 it's saying he enrolled at Michigan State today but they're the only ones saying that so I'm not sure that it's true. It looks like he originally signed to Michigan State then to Northern Illinois but ended up at Arizona Western.

I'd been thinking we might target the juco ranks for a skill position player or two. Offer would make sense.

Dude looks like a beast. But his 40 time for a RB sucks unless it is not accurate.

    A 4.55 sucks? Really?

I'm thinking he looked at ESPN who's 40 times are always real slow.

I hope he can run a 4.55, but I look at that Rivals time and automatically think 4.65.

His electronically time of 4.82 raise the eyebrow. did it improve 3/10 since high school?

He has a 4.26 shuttle and 34.8 inch vertical. Both excellent measurements for a RB out of HS. Remind me why a 40 is important at RB? Seems like a nice-to-have rather than an eyebrow-raising concern.

ESPN has him at 4.82. That sucks-not even great for an LB in the Pac. Yes, 40 times are not really reflective of most football plays, but we desperately need a homerun back and even 4.55 is not that.

I think a lot of people would be surprised at how many great NFL running backs run a 40 in the 4.55 to 4.7 range.

I think a lot of people need to stop believing any 40 time put on rivals.

If he can get in, he's worth a shot IMHO.

If combine times are any indication than you are right:
    http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/2/25/4029888/2013-nfl-combine-results-rb-40-yard-dash-bench

Having said that my initial reaction was to ESPN's reported 4.82 time in the 40. However I stick by my point that we need a home run back and I do believe 40 time is somewhat relevant for that. A homerun back can get to the hole quick and accelerate, sometimes untouched to the endzone. That is not far from running a 40 (with gear on of course). I would consider a homerun back to probably run a sub 4.5, 40.

Edit: Perhaps I was too quick to go with sub 4.5. Just noticed Barner's time in the combine was 4.52 and I felt he was a home run back for Oregon. Although after further review, at other combines he was clocked as low as 4.35! http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=81852&draftyear=2013&genpos=RB

If this guy is being looked as a home-run back then I agree, he's not going to cut it with a 4.8 40. Sub 4.5 out of HS is very rare - a sub 4.6 like that dude that likes Baylor would suffice. This guy looks like a great workhorse however.

If he was good enough for Michigan State out of high school, he's good enough for us.

Word. Dude is put together. Maybe not a threat to go to the house every play especially with our blocking but enough to punish some smaller LBs and the DBs should he be fortunate to get that far on carries.

We don't need a HR back right now. We need 4 yards and a pile of dust and 2 RB's capable of doing that. Powell is one of them. Not to say I don't want a guy who can run a 4.4 forty. I just don't think we are in on the ones who can do that, change direction, and break a tackle. All the things needed to be a HR back.

Abron, Ford and Tony Jones are already our change of pace backs. I don't mind that group.

I would argue that you ALWAYS want a back capable of scoring every time he touches the ball.

He doesn't look close to 225 in the picture in the OP. Assuming that he is 225 and that's an old pic, then he's had a good diet in Yuma, eh Tini?

His weight on his MSU page lists him at 197, so I'd guess 200-205.

I would argue that guys like that aren't interested in playing for CU currently.

There's a kid from Texas we are recruiting who runs a 4.51 40 with I believe a 4.1 shuttle, as long as he doesn't get a Bailor offer I think he's a Buff.

Appreciate your positivity, Tini, but Turner is also about a buck-fifty. Guys who go 5'10", 220 lbs and run legit 4.4-4.5s are going to be tough for us to land. It'll make it all the sweeter if we figure out a way to land Ballage.
