    From the "Adidas Gauntlet" event:

Verbal Commits has highlights HERE and gives the following scouting report:

    James Kerti, National Scout

Tyler Dorsey is a combo guard who is at his best in an uptempo style where he can showcase his speed with the ball and ability to pull up in space. He's also an excellent distributor when the offense is flowing.

    ESPN Scouting Report:

    ESPN Analyst
    Updated 06/18/2014

    Strengths:
Dorsey has a lethal combination of his size and skill is a sight to see and his athleticism is impressive. He explodes in the open court (reminiscent of John Wall while in high school) and he can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. Although he is most noted for his scoring prowess (pull-ups and slashing drives), his passing ability is what sets him apart from most of his peers.

    Weaknesses:
Dorsey is a mature prospect (old for his grade), thus it will be interesting to see how much more he physically develops. Dorsey needs to slow down some in the half court set and play on balance (leaves his feet while passing) which leads to charges and turnovers. Like most players he has a tendency to pound the ball too much, which leads to some turnovers and forced shots. By continuing to develop a triple threat game (squaring up, quick 1st step, jab step, pump fake, etc.) instead of over-handling it, the game should slow down for him.

    Bottom Line:
Dorsey continues to prove why he should be mentioned amongst the nation%u2019s elite for his class. Due to his scoring prowess and approach to the game (plays hard), he has a chance to be an elite shooting guard with continued savvy and skill development.

At one time Dorsey was an Arizona commit who de-committed and restarted things in mid-June.

Interestingly, when CBS Sports ran an article on this they did not mention CU as a program that had reached out to him (a comprehensive list that included the likes of Tulsa). So, the offer and mutual interest must be pretty new. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...orsey-starting-his-recruitment-all-over-again

Also, it looks like Dorsey has decided to play his senior season at Marantha HS in Pasadena. So he's staying in the LA area, but has no interest in UCLA, USC or SDSU. Interesting. http://www.presstelegram.com/sports...to-transfer-out-of-st-john-bosco-to-maranatha

It's like how it is with anyone else. Get him on campus, and you have a shot at convincing him that CU is a great place for him. As it is, would have to think there is a lot of ground to be made up. KU probably the leader.

If he stays in the Pac, have to like the Buffs chances

What I gained from that first link is he wants to be the lead guard and isn't shying away from "cold weather" schools. Looks like we need to put him in touch with Dinwiddie & Burks then ask him what kind of guards Altman has sent to the NBA. Kansas is going to be feeding just as many mouths as Arizona, if not more, so if his thought process is the same then I'm not sure how he's going there as anything more than a fun trip/ego boost.

Good point - Altman's sent more guards to other schools than he has to the NBA in recent years. Something strange going on up there these days.

He'd be allowed to tweet at them with a question. For example, Tad in passing on a phone call to Dorsey "Oh yeah, Burks and Mayor, they're great follows on Twitter. Very knowledgeable about what it takes to make it in the Association." Dorsey remembers this and decides to contact one of them with a general question about their favorite team memory or what Boulder is like or something.

I know this isn't the tread for this, but here it comes anyway. How long until the inevitable sanctions against Oregon Hoops and Altman? It's a revolving door up there and I have a feeling they are dancing on the line if not already over it. Just my opinion.

It's true. This is a long shot until an OV. Alternatively, he de-committed from UA at least in part because of the influx of elite guards & he has an OV to Oregon who haven't had any guards drafted in the NBA in Altman's tenure.

Yeah, having Dom Collier (especially if he makes an instant impact), makes this rather unlikely. Wants to be the lead guard

Everyone on his list probably has a point guard as good or better than Dom so I doubt that Dom scares him. I'm really excited about Dom wearing the BnG for the next four seasons but if we really want to become an elite program you don't tell a guy with this type of talent (unles he's a Shabazz/Jahii type) "Sorry, we have a sophmore PG that the guys really like and he was Mr Colorado, and everything, so we just don't have room for you."

If it's really more than a pipe dream, let him earn the lead guard job, Dom loses some minutes and maybe his starting job his sophmore season, and maybe comes back even better his junior year. It's the reality of big-time college basketball.

LOI period is in November. Not an issue. Besides, Dom is a combo guard.

Wasn't saying that you do tell him that. You always try to get the best players with the spots available (If we could rewind the clock, I certainly wouldn't say no to Shabazz or Jahii either)

Why does a player want to play for a particular school though? The team's success (both historically and in recent tournaments), a player's relationship with the coaches and other players on the team, playing time, closeness to home, how great their facilities are all play a factor (and let's not forget if they are an Adidas or Nike school). CU's a program that is on the upswing, but they have not had the tournament success the last couple seasons which is probably fresh in a lot of recruits minds. CU isn't really close to home, and you have to fight the stigma that it is always cold in Colorado.

It's not that a couple Top 100 guards would sway him away from CU, but when you don't have most of the other factors in your favor, it is a very tough battle to win. Like anything tho, if you get him to come for a visit, you have a chance to change some of those other factors.

    September 19th.

He'll be in town for the Hawaii football game. That could be a blast if things are rolling in football. The energy at CU is amazing when football is winning. Also, I think basketball recruits are always surprised at how many of our fans call out to our basketball players and recruits (knowing them by name) when we see them at football games.
