    Tackle (6):
Jr. Nate Solder Buena Vista, CO (Buena Vista) *Starter*
So. Matthew Bahr Mission Viejo, CA (Mission Viejo)
So. Sione Tau Honolulu, HI (Damien Memorial)
Fr. Ryan Dannewitz San Jacinto, CA (San Jacinto)
Fr. Bryce Givens Denver, CO (Mullen) *Starter*
Fr. Jack Harris Parker, CO (Chaparral)
Players in Bold have seen playing time.

    Graduating after 2009-10 - Zero
    OT taken last year- One
    2010 recruiting needs – Two

Buffaholic got a lot of flack when he suggested Ryan Miller would move to OG last year. I thought it was a bad idea. But looking at the progress of Bryce Givens has made, the move kind of makes sense. I’ve been really high on Givens since he first came on campus. If he can stay healthy he will be a dominate force at RT for some time to come. I just didn’t expect him to replace Ryan so soon. LG Nate Solder seems like the only OL not to make a position move over the spring. He had a rough sophomore year, but hopefully the experience will make the difference. He certainly looks the part. Sione Tau looks like he’s taken care of business in the classroom, which is great for depth. I just don’t see this kid making it on the field in front of the guys we have. No disrespect to Sione, but we just have better options imo. The coaches have been giving Sione looks at OG over the spring. But I don’t expect to see him there if MTM can make it back in time. I’m not too sure about Ryan Dannewitz. He’s gained a lot of weight over the year, but I just haven’t seen too much of him while I was at practice.

I really like addition of Jack Harris. The kid is one bad dude:lol: I like the fact that we don’t have to rush our kids into the fire immediately when they get here. I think he will develop into a great OT.

I think we should always grab a couple OT’s every cycle. We are really young at OT, but we have some good experience here. But I’m greedy with tackles. The coaching staff’s focus should be at OG for ’10.

    Guard (7):
Sr. Devin Head Corona, CA (Centennial)*Starter*
So. Ethan Adkins Castle Rock, CO (Douglas County)

So. Blake Behrens Scottsdale, AZ (Brophy Prep)
So. Shawn Daniels Denver, CO (Mullen)
So. Ryan Miller Littleton, CO (Columbine) *Starter*
Fr. Max Tuioti-Mariner Corona, CA (Corona)

Fr. David Bakhtiari San Mateo, CA (Junipero Serra)
Players in Bold have seen playing time.

    2010 recruiting needs – Two

Even though this looks like our most experienced unit, we still have some very big question marks out there. The lone senior from the OL this year is Devin Head. Who did a respectable job last season considering the circumstances. He’s a tough kid but I think he’s keeping MTM’s spot warm, Especially with Ryan Miller making the move to RG. Ryan should be a force no matter where he is put on the OL. The kid is the leader of the OL and has a great head on his shoulders. Another good thing – He’s only a Sophomore!!! Max Tuioti-Mariner is also a question mark because of injuries. It’s hard to imagine him coming back from 3 ACL tears within 3 years. But the kid did play really well last season. He graded out to 78% for the WVU game. Adkins, Behrens, and Daniels all have seen significant PT last year. I just would like to see one of them really step up and push Devin Head. My bet is on Behrens (who was injured for all of Spring Ball), but Adkins could certainly step up imo. The coaches have been messing around with Sione Tau at OG this spring. So don’t be surprised to see him there during the fall.
Colorado pulled in two guards this last cycle, but I heard they might place Gus Handler at center. Nothing official but I think he’ll stay there. That move makes sense imo. There has been a lot of positive talk about David Bakhtiari during spring ball. But he looks like a project player. Like I said before, It’s nice to have the depth to throw a RS on these guys so they can develop.

We are losing Devin Head next year so I think we should look at bringing in at least two kids minimum at guard. I’d like three but can do with two solid guards this class. A lot hinges on the progress of MTM. If he goes down for good, we should consider going after a JUCO kid.

    Center (4):
So. Mike Iltis Sarasota, FL (Riverview)*Starter*
Fr. Shaun Simon Tulsa, OK (Union)
Fr. Gus Handler Barrington, IL (Barrington)
Players in Bold have seen playing time.

    Graduating after 2009-10 - Zero
    OC taken last year- Two
    2010 recruiting needs – Zero

I like the move with Iltis to center. He looks like the vocal guy you need at the position. Things may be a bit rough to start off, but I think he’ll be a great center for CU. We also have Justin Drescher coming back at LS. He’s been automatic for us there. I hope we have a replacement on the roster lined up.

I know it seems like a little much to bring in two kids at center in one class, but I’ve heard some rumbling about Handler making the move to center. I’ve also heard they might make Shaun Simon a DT, even though he denies that. So we have some uncertainty at this position. But if everything goes as planned, we can have enough time to groom Handler to take over for Iltis. I also know they can move Blake Behrens here in case of any injury. I’ve seen him getting some reps at center, but I think they are going to keep him at guard for now. We always have Keenan Stevens, and Evan Eastburn here as well.

I don’t think we should bring in any centers this year. If a big time recruit happens to fall in our lap then sure, but I don’t see us taking anyone here this year.

I think either Handler or Simon ends up at guard. I think we'll end up signing 3 linemen total in this class. It seems like a lot of guys we have offered could end up being tackles or guards.

I haven't heard about Simon moving to guard. What about making him the LS? We need someone to fill that position once Drescher graduates.

You know who has disappointed me?

So. Sione Tau Honolulu, HI (Damien Memorial)

    Am I just delusional?

I think he's still young. Plenty of time for Tau.

That is not a bad idea.

Not necessarily. I think a lot of people are waiting for him to step up.

Ryan Wallace is a long-snapper and right in line to replace JD.

I think that a healthy MTM or Behrens have an edge over Head as they are young and learning and I don't see Head improving year to year.

With that said, we got a new O-line coach with different ideas which require some different skills perhaps, so I think it's anyone's guess. We finally have some competition at O-line though!

Oline looks to be tough recruiting this year if kids are looking at the depth chart.

Here's an interesting way of looking at it:

Last year's finale, a last-second lost to the Fuskers, featured one graduating Senior on the O-line (the endeared Girthy). Of those other 4 who started, only one appears to have locked down a starting job come fall (Nate Solder).

The other three starters (Bahr, Head and Behrens) are likely battling for one position provided MTM doesn't return to health earlier than expected and put ALL three on the 2nd team.

You know something good is happening when you return 4 of your 5 O-line starters and only 1 of them can win their job back....

You still have to sign 2-3 guys a year. Plus OL is one area where players most likely realize they are not going to be seeing major playing time immediately. If Johnson can connect with recruits, depth charts really will not matter much. Winning helps too.

I'm not going to say the depth chart isn't a factor in a kid's decision. But I don't want kids here that are intimidated by it either. I'm sure any coach would agree with that. Sure we have some talent on the line, but I still think our OL has to be a major priority year in and year out. I still want to see 4 kids this cycle. Three minimum.

Crazy, but true. I never thought I'd see the day when a young stud OL prospect would look at the CU roster and say "I don't see me getting any playing time for at least two years". It's a problem, but a good problem to have. We are probably in a very similar situation at RB.

Looks like one pretty good prospect is interested:

FWIW, Crosthwaite is 4* and top 250 player on rivals.

I don't see it being a problem at all. O-Linemen generally aren't glory hounds and don't focus on PT as much. I would think having a stable, veteran, and solid group of O-Linemen would be a benefit because the new kids could come in and focus on: 1) Eating, 2) Lifting, 3) Learning.

The offers we currently have out to OL prospects pretty much tells the story. With the latest offers to Bonnell and Crosthwaite, we have 10 total offers out. Six of those guys are 4*.

Noice. Would be nice to get 4 o/l this class. Gotta have sufficient number to run 2+ deep plus scout team. If three of those four are 4* with a super-sleeper thrown in.......
