    Three questions

Who are some of the national targets we are going after?

Who are some of the in-state targets we need to get?

What areas should we focus on in the next class?

    Anybody?

I hope we can get some early verbals, something we never really seem to do like other programs can.

Areas of focus will be.....surprise, surprise......DT and DE. We need a minimum of 2 each for this next class and could take more if the right guys are available and depending on who ends up where for this class.

WR should be the next area of focus. Really hurts not getting Lucien, but oh well. Lots of athletes with good speed and hands in this class could help fill the void this season. Solid play from QB and/or an early Blue Chip commit would really help shore up this position for us. Let's face it, unless we have a good signal caller/ball slinger, most quality WR are going to want to go play elsewhere.

Which leads us to QB. Imperative that this staff land a high caliber signal caller early in the process to get momentum going and show other recruits that we are building quality.

After a BC QB I would put OL. Six SRs will graduate after this fall, However, we will still have 13 on schollie. I would bet the staff will go after 3 to 4 this upcoming cycle and can afford to be somewhat selective with who they offer.

The speed and athleticism has been upgraded at the DB spots recently, but we still have work to do. We should take anywhere from 3 to 5 DBs and hopefully we land at least one top notch CB and S in this group.

LB, TE and FB. LBs and TEs seem to also make good FBs. The new pro style offense will call for at least 2 FBs and it will be interesting to see who ends up playing here. Depending on who from the current roster ends up where, I would say we could take 2 each of LB, TE and FB and be ok at these positions.

That leaves RB. After this season we will be very young at RB. Depending on who steps up this may or may not be a position of great need. I am betting on either attrition or position switches dictating that we sign 1 - 2 RB.

So the very early breakdown of what we need to recruit for the 2012 class:
    QB 1-2
    RB 1-2
    FB 2
    WR 2-3
    TE 2
    OL 3-4

    DT 2-3
    DE 2-3
    LB 2
    CB 1-2
    S 2-3

Three main areas of need will be DT, WR, and QB. However, it will be a big enough class where all positions will be highlighted. Expect the 2012 class to be over 25 players.

As far as in-state prospects go for 2012, there are three guys that have garnered CU offers thus far:
    1. QB Cyler Miles (Mullen)
    2. OT Shane Callahan (Chapparal)
    3. OL Paul Thurston (Arvada West)

Right now, CU looks pretty good for all, but Miles is going to get a lot of attention during the spring evaluation period, as he was impressive at the junior combine a couple weeks ago. The other two are also likely double-digit BCS offer prospects. One other player to keep an eye on in-state initially is Mountain Vista DL Clay Norgard. If he gets an offer, he is pretty much a Buff lock.

On the national scene, it is a bit hard to sort out what prospects the new staff is focusing on, but expect them to hit Colorado, California, and Texas (particularly DFW and Houston) very hard before moving on to secondary states like Hawaii, Arizona, and others.

EB will bring in some stud players next year, before he left for the vikings he highly regarded as one of the top recruiters in the nation.

I'm just asking for a stud QB, everything else will just be icing on the cake.

A blue chip QB is important, but you cannot treat everything else as just icing on the cake. Next year's class will be the biggest in recent memory because we are graduating a large senior class and will likely see some attrition this spring. This class needs to be a foundational class across many positions.

...and now we need to see how he and his staff coach up individuals and get the team to play. This will be critical to next year's class making a big leap in quality.

Only 9 of the guys on that list are noted as having offers. The rest are interested in CU but have no offer listed. But didn't someone say that the CU coaches already have 30 offers out for 2012???

Adam said it on Twitter and I relayed it. But then the recruiting sites only report what they know.

One name I found interesting on the scout page -- Max Handler (IL). Brother of Gus, perchance?
