2015 class who had reported CU interest.

Johnny Williams (6'2" 290) was the defensive player of the year in his conference for Mt. San Jacinto. Plays inside in a traditional 4-3 and seems to get after the QB.

Deshawnte Lloyd is a massive human being at 6'3" 320 who was impressive at the NT spot for Col. of Sequoias in a similar defense to what CU is implementing.

What do you guys think of these players?

Are you in favor of bringing in a JUCO DT late to try to soften the blow of losing Tupou to suspension?

    No thanks on a Band-Aid.

Find someone to step up out of Carrell, Lopez, Franke, Jackson etc

    I agree with Slider here.
No way these guys are both good and eligible.

I'd love to pick Leavitt's mind for what he has planned to soften the blow. If he can find somebody he thinks can help, whether for depth or more, he definitely should. It might be too late to find any viable talent now but I've been a bit disappointed with this staff's lack of er.. ambition when it comes to trying to get immediate help. Teams like WSU and UW have found help in late JUCOs and transfers, and I don't see why we wouldn't be looking for anybody that can help in such a crucial time with open scholarships. I still think we should've gotten another WR in the mix as well.

We already have three juco defensive linemen who haven't seen the field yet as buffs. There are enough players on the dline to weather this, but we need some of those players to step up to be solid contributors.

This is Solis chance to step up and this is Lopez chance to prove himself in relief duty, this is more than likely his job next year.

Well Carroll was going to eventually take over one of the spots and the rest of the cast (Franke, Jackson etc) were going to play a ton anyway. It'll be a good opportunity to build depth for next year now with the youngns.

But are any of them ready to be a NT in this defense? Solis and Lopez are big enough, but beyond that I'm not sure who is 3rd on the list.

It won't matter who's 3rd on the list. There's enough tune up games early on to get them dialed in and headed in the right direction. Carrolls a stud. He may end the season #1 if not before. You watch.

The point I'm making is the guys you're listing aren't nose tackles. I really like Carrell, but he isn't a nose tackle...he's 6'3" 275. Perfect for the DE/DT, but not the size you want in a NT. Solis and Lopez are the only guys who have the size you need. Tuiloma will grow into that size, but he's far from being ready.

Need to grab a JUCO guy who can fill that void.

Yes and no, it depends on what the coaches have or think they have after Lopez, if we don't have anyone after Lopez we need a Juco for depth, if they think someone is capable after Lopez why waste bringing someone in with an already small class? Josh is a SR and was going to finish his eligibility after this year (not sure what will happen with suspension since he didn't RS), that shrinks the already small class for someone who may not contribute or barely contribute.

Let's start with do you know the difference between a NT and DT on defense? Next with our defense?

Unless he is someone who can come in and replace Tupou with similar talent, I am not sure it makes sense. That would to be adding a body, just to add a body IMO

Are you talking? This ain't the pros, it's college. Oregon & Oregon state make it work just fine with lineman in the 270-300 range with a big Samoan in the mix and they play for league and national title every year. So let's start with get your facts straight before decide to talk ****.

Tupou's role in the new defense is to control 2 blockers (and 2 gaps) on the interior, keeping our ILBs clean to pursue. You need to be a Joel Steed type body in order to do that. (Think Vince Wilfork for all those recent Patriots 3-4 defenses.)

Solis can do it. I think Lopez can.

But beyond that, the only way one of our DLs could slide into that spot would be an obvious passing situation where he's trying to shed & get to the QB.

If healthy, depth is ok with a 2-deep. But the risk of injury looms large for us. (Plus we lost our best player from the anchor point of the defense.)

Jase Franke did finish above Lopez at NT on the post spring depth chart. So did Norgard actually, which is a bit concerning.
