First, I'm always disappointed when the Buffs loose and today was no exception. Although today's loss doesn't feel nearly as devastating as Cal and WSU, perhaps because I knew we would get stomped. That being said I watched the game from a different perspective today and was pleasantly surprised and pissed at the same time. The play calling was improved today. There were several times where we had the right play, just poorly executed. In first half, Speedy had blockers for a big screen play, but didn't catch the pass...fourth quarter, we had a nice slant (didn't see the number) but was negated by a false start. By no means are things about to "pop" and it is a lot of "little things", but I have more faith in the coaches now then ever before. At the same time, I realize that we just don't have the horses to compete consistently for 60 min right now.
    Just my two cents...

My concerns have nothing to do with the playcalling. This team needs talent. And right now, this staff isn't close to delivering enough of that talent.

Couldn't agree more. We have a few talented players, just not enough to make a team.

How nice would it be to have 3 TEs that are big physical and can catch the ball.

I am encouraged by the outward frustration shown by EB and JE. They hate the lack of execution as much as we do. That, alone, is a step in the right direction from the Head-in-the-sand-Hawk.

The continued special teams woes are frustrating. The penalties are especially frustrating. But the issues do appear to be more execution than scheme, so that gives me some hope.

More like a 10-5. We don't have any paint.

    just to clarify.

the staff doesn't deliver the talent or the players don't?

    or both?

The play calling on offense is improving, what we need now is to improve our depth, and to get bigger, stronger, faster in all areas. Right now don't like how we stack up athletically with other teams.

patience, we don't have the talent. If there are two programs I would want to reflect, they are Wisconsin and Stanford

I was thinking Stanford and Wisconsin for more realistic. We fit those schools better with the type of football we want to be and the type of players we can and will recruit. Plus, Wisconsin and Stanford are pretty damn close to LSU and Bama anyway. Oh and Stanford was Colorado bad about 5 years ago.

I think there's a part of me that agrees, but then there's the part of me that sees more hope in Russian literature than this team.

We can't get away with cheating the same way they can. There are NCAA rules, then there are $EC rules.

That alone will keep me on these guy's bandwagon for the next few years. I almost feel bad for them. Would love to see what the staff could do with some real talent. So far, our record shows the truth in terms of talent. We are more talented than CSU and that is it. I am just afraid this losing will prevent any recruiting success.

So is there any indication these coaches are going to be able to recruit like Stanford / Wisconsin at this point?

Rivals has the Buffs with the #11 class (in the Pac 12) right now.

I would be absolutly thrilled with a team molded after the Wisconsin/Stanford style. The ability to control a game and impose your will is something we have not seen here in over a decade. While I didn't enjoy the outcome, I enjoyed watching Stanford's offense work. Their plays are built to put you on the horns of a delima and they have the players to take advantage of the defense's choices... I long for those days.

I took it to mean that our recruiting is not going all that well.

I hate to say it but this team is going to have some more of these really ugly games over the next few seasons.

We have a bad combination, lack of talent, lack of depth, lack of skill (fundamentals,) and most importantly of all a losing attitude in which guys aren't bothered by getting their asses kicked.

The problem for the coaches is that talent wants to play with talent, they want to win. Why would guys commit to play in god forsaken places like Stinkin, Norman, etc. if it wasn't for the winning.

The coaches have to work on all of these things but the biggest issue is the attitude. Change that and we start winning games like Hawaii and Wazzou, teams like UCLA and Arizona find a way to lose to us because they have their share of that same attitude issue.

Once you start to beat those "beatables" and compete against the middle type teams (Ohio State this year) even if you lose then you start to get the ear of the better quality recruits.

This doesn't say that recruiting right now isn't important. We have D2 talent right now at a lot of positions. Our current recruiting class isn't going to make the NCAA ask how did that happen but we have some guys who could make a difference in the future with this team. Our WR recruits are going to be a major step up from the guys other than PRich (who fell in our lap) that Hawkins left us. Dillon is the best QB recruit I have seen us get in years, add Wood transfering in and we have hope at QB. When was the last time we had 2 and maybe 3 real DT prospects. We still need to get some O-Line guys and some real DB commits but I think we are going to see a step up in talent with this class. (Granted it would be hard to step down.)

I may be an incurable optimist but I also think this staff is going to deliver some surprises. Wes Brown, Yuri, Adams, and a couple of big guys each may very well end up signing with us. I still think that the attitude issue is the number one priority but the recruiting can speed up the process.

Try recruiting after 5 years of ******ness and now 6. They're building a base of 3* players who have size an speed. We're in on some good players still as well.
