Share your tips for San Antonio, how to get there here, what to do there, where to drink, eat, sleep etc. here

Frontier seemed to have the cheapest flights. Any hotel on the River walk will be within a 30 minute walk of the Alamo dome. Renting a car is probably unnecessary as there are also plenty of restaurants on the riverwalk

San Antonio is a fun town. Lots of places along the Riverwalk to stay and eat. Bella on the River is a pricey, but good spot.

Plenty of legit options for Mexican food. A few favorites: Mi Tierra (open 24 hrs) is super popular and deservedly so, La Gloria, Rosario's Cafe y Cantina.

The area around the old Pearl Brewery has been renovated and is a cool spot.

Best breakfasts: Guenther House and Magnolia Pancake Haus

The old Spanish missions (and of course the Alamo) are a good family-friendly option.

And if you're willing to drive about an hour to tiny Lockhart, TX, you can get some of the best BBQ you'll ever have in your life. 3 good places: Smitty's, Kreutz, and Black's.

Bohannon's if you want to splurge on a great steak. Not for the meek of wallet.

Oddly, the Alamo Bowl is the only bowl game I've ever been to...think it was Arizona vs Okie Lite?? I forget, bc a friend and I went just to get airline miles and wasted.

Anyway, from what I recall, the Alamo had a long line to visit, and since we passed on the line, I have no idea if it's worth visiting. We were able to walk to the stadium from the River Walk, and while a lot of people talk up the River Walk... ...I personally didn't think it was that great. There was a strip club a good cab ride away that was pretty fun...forget the name though. The people were really nice though, especially since we weren't rooting for either team.

Sorry, this is probably the most unhelpful post in the thread. I will reiterate though that the River Walk, while the main attraction area, is not amazing. It's okay, but don't hinder yourself to the River Walk. I've heard there are a lot of other cool places in SA. Hope you all have fun!

Didn't one of our players get into trouble for pissing into the river on the river walk the last time we played in San Antonio?

fify.

just kidding.

Rudy's BBQ is nowhere near the river walk, but it's awesome. Probably the best BBQ I've ever had. I might just uber out there Friday night.

Is there any reason to wait for the A.D. to start selling tickets? Would that be smarter/cheaper than just copping them off of stubhub right now?

Holy shat I stupidly waited to book since I thought we were Rose Bowl bound and round trip for 2 is like $1200.

Airbnb places are booking fast. Two of three places mrs skibum flagged a couple hours ago were booked when I just checked them out - I quickly booked the third one...

if your going that route i would wait it out....right now the lower bowl is over face ..... there are some endzone uppers for like $40 ea but that is up there in gods country....prices almost always drop on gameday

There is always Pancho's? It's their version of Casa Bonita without the cliff diver.

long drive and freakn boring. Have to watch Raton Pass this time of the year in your planing.

Spent a great deal of time professionally in San Antonio. Favorite hotel is the Fairmont, located across the street from the conventions center. Not part of the Fairmont chain, great boutique hotel. La Fogata on Vance Jackson for great Mexican and if you have the time head north on I10 to Leon Spring for Rudy's BBQ. Also the Hyatt Hill Country and La Cantera Resort and Spa, both great golf courses, and if you have the time play the Quarry if you are into it.

I was there on business and went to that joint where the horses escort your tour bus to the barn like entrance, have a rodeo as part of the entertainment, as well as bar-b-que.

Rudy's is good? There is one in Frisco and I assumed it was ****.
