Not a single mention of CU's move west. Simply amazing.
local media hasnt done **** either... but we are dealing with the death of Kenny McKinley
Actually somewhat of a prime spot on the Austin news tonight, AND our move was mentioned BEFORE Nebraska's! General wording was we got the good deal and Nebraska was taken behind the woodshed on the payout. TV just talked straight up numbers, no mention of what AD had more money than the other. Portrayal was Nebraska got screwed and we were the shrewd ones according to Austin news.
I'm not shocked. Which channel? It wasn't on KFOR. But, they probably didn't even see the final announcement. Today was OU's media day after all. lol
It was on 9 news 10 p.m. broadcast loud and clear.
I didn't even tink of the angle that we'd do well in negotiations simply because Bevo would want to make it look like Nebraska got screwed. They really hate the Corn and it's obviously mutual.
Like the newsflash that CU is smarter than the Corn is a surprise to anyone?
it's old news. it was just a matter of accounting.
Channel 4 news, too. But Vic Lombardi made it sound like the $6.8 million was something CU had to pay in order to leave early, not something they pretty much would have had to pay no matter when they left...
Stuff I didn't know: Born on Denver's North Side in 1969, Vic Lombardi interned at CBS4 as a student and later joined CBS4 in June of 1998. He graduated from Holy Family High School in Denver, attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated from Notre Dame University in 1991.
Must have killed him if he watched the 1991 orange bowl game.
I wasn't paying attention to the channel the wifey had on - I was on AB at the time, kinda listening/reading/typing all at once (from the next room).....
My ears perked up a bit when the sports segment started.
One station in omaha KETV channel 7 abc affilate said that the reason CU got off with only paying 6.8 mil is because the big 12 "OBVIOUSLY" saw NU as a bigger loss and brought more value to the conference than CU. i was PISSED when i heard this lie!
That's so outrageously stupid that it's hilarious! Fined more because they're a bigger loss? yeah, the nubs would agree to that!
Not really that big of a deal to NU fans. The Big XII got screwed by not getting all their money so it's all good.
NU's position with the B12 was that we are leaving in 2011 so deal with it. We never once said we might stick around until 2012. This gave CU some negotiating power. CU said they might stay until 2012 and this would make scheduling harder for the B12. I am not trying to sound pompous but CU should be thanking NU we a) helped you get out in 2011 and b) helped you get out owing much less money. Factor in NU historically makes more in our B12 revenue sharing and it all makes sense. Just my take as an NU fan.
When you make more in revenue sharing (usually) you pay a higher percentage in penalty money when said money is a percentage of revenue sharing. Not that hard to figure out.
Factor in NU is currently #6 in the country in football and might make a BCS bowl this year and NU, at least in big money maker football, is more of a loss to the conference. Nothing personal just business.
Meh, as someone already noted here, the difference is no big deal to nebraska anyway. Who really cares?
I just want to clarify I am not trying to sound arrogant but let's face it, the NU and CU football programs are at different places right now. I am happy for the Buffs they got out of the B12 you all seemed to want to go to the Pac for awhile. You might have gotten a better deal getting out and thats all good with NU fans. I am glad we both got out from under Texas' strong arm.
That's okay, the local hack (Tramel) started his front page article (sports) with this line, "Don't leave mad, the Big 12 told Colorado. Just leave." jackazz
For better or for worse NU and CU are kind of in this conference leaving garbage together. The vitriol spewed toward NU is similar. Kind of funny really and sounds like a bunch of sour grapes. Most B12 teams would like to get the eff out of dodge and only NU and CU had the cajones to do it.
Interesting information. Vic is as bad as it gets. He is a sensationalist "reporter". He is atrocious on the radio as well.
Just saw a news break on 9 News and the news reading twit exclaimed "CU TO PAY BIG, BIG FEE TO GET OUT OF THE BIG 12!!! CU HAS TO COUGH UP $7M TO LEAVE!!"
Typical BS from our local "reporters". They don't actually do any real reporting. They just read from the AP and give completely uninformed angles. They also seem to have no interest in supporting this state and it's institutions.
do you have any numbers to back this up? it would be interesting to see what each team brings to the conference
kNebraska paid more to get out of the B12 not because they are a bigger fish, but because they were in a worse negotiating position.
Conference schools only share TV and bowl money, not gate receipts. That means kNebraska's sellout streak and revenue stream are irrelevant to conference revenue sharing. CU took home more conference money than kNebraska in '08-'09 and I assume the numbers were similar last season.
Corn_Fan's right in a lot of ways - I was just commenting on the Austin spin on our schools' respective departures form the Mack 10.
Another big reason why Nebraska's paying more is because they only gave the one-year notice, whereas we gave two. And NU giving the one-year notice gave CU a GREAT starting position to begin negogiating our exit. Had Mack 10 and Beebe demanded 80% from us to get us out in 2011, it would've been breach of contract on their part since we had played by the rules on the two year notice. As it played out, rough and dirty numbers suggests that we only have to pay 50% of one year's worth of revenue. Not too shabby when we were initially staring at paying that 50% on two years' revenue.
Anyway, like Corn said, it's all business, it all worked out for the best, and I'M ****ING PSYCHED TO BE OUT OF THIS ****HOLE OF A CONFERENCE AND OFF TO THE PAC-10(12)!
And congrats to NU for showing the Mack 10 the finger too!
You know, you're right. Thank you Nebraska for being stupid.
I don't have the numbers per se I just know that NU usually gets more than CU except for the last year.
It was not stupid I hope you are kidding. We were telling UT to eff off and had had the money and were not worried about a few Mil.
It had something to do with us being a bigger fish with our football program though. NU (except for last year) usually gets more revenue from the B12 than CU. NU has a better football program right now. Compound that with our stance we were leaving in 2011 no matter what and it equates to 3 Mil more than CU penalty.
Good post and good luck to CU in the Pac!
