On the RR there is a pretty good debate going on regarding the possibility of CU and Utah/BYU joining the Pac-10 (making it the Pac-12). I hadn't given this much thought before, but we tend to recruit out west better than we do down in Texas.

    A couple pros:
    1) Pac-10 schools are in far more better locations - I know I'd be more apt to travel to Eugene than Stillwater.
    2) Again recruiting base
    3) Get us out of the Big 12 and it's terrible TV package. The Pac-12 would be poised to get a great TV deal with the number of high market schools.
    4) We could play Nebraska in a non-conference series.

    A few cons:
    1) Yeah, it's the Pac-10.
    2) It would be more travel (in miles)
    3) We'd have to go to LA (something I don't look forward to)
    4) USC

Food for thought anyway... better than talking about how many touchdowns we haven't been scoring.

    Absolutely not.

The Pac10 isn't as strong of a conference compared to the Big12 and while that may mean the Buffs could regain some territory in the W column, we'd give up far too much as well. That may change in the future since teams go up and down, but how many programs have strong traditions in football in the Pac10? I'd see a game in Norman way before I'd want to go see a game in the Coliseum (LA sucks) and besides Autzen I don't really know of a place I'd have to go see a game (maybe tailgating out on the lake in Washington).

Yes, we do have a strong alumni base in Arizona and California so we'd travel well for our games against those guys, but we'd lose the tradition we do have. No more Big 8 rivalries and the intensity that those games can bring. The game versus the Fuskers would be gone since I don't see them regularly scheduling a BCS opponent every year.

All of our rivalries would be "new." I'm sure Utah or BYU would be our new rival. There is no way that there would be any intensity to the game. I like that. That's what makes college ball so good. Think of when the Big 12 started and NU had to accept that we were their main rival, instead of OU. Hell, some of them still think we aren't a rival *coughbull****cough* even with some great games in the 90s. Now replace that with someone we've played 3 or 4 times over the past 20 years and a lot of the fanbase won't give a **** about our thanksgiving day game and neither will the nation (tbh, they don't really even care now). For the rest of my days I'll long for the days we played NU and when the game comes around (if it does) then it'll be even bigger than it was before. That's when we would have realized how much we've lost, imo, if we did move. Move the CSU game that far back and I doubt we are on TV that day.

We would definitely recruit better in California than we are now so that'd be the only plus I see. We'd also see less mullets, so that's also a huge plus

is it that time of the year again?

Yes, if the Pac 10 ever gets its **** together TV wise. **** Kansas, Iowa, and Texas. We can still play nebraska if we want. Why would I ever go to those places?

I haven't heard any rumors about CU going to the Pac-10. Is there any source for this rumor?

In order for this to really work you have to find a team that can replace us in the big12 that the rest of the confrence would actually want.

    Iowa.

Not that I'm advocating it, mind you. But Iowa would be a natural choice for a replacement to the Big 12 if CU were to leave. Their biggest game of the year is against Minnesota, which is a game they could easily schedule in the OOC by replacing their OOC game with ISU with a conference game. Iowa travels better than CU, and is closer to all of the B12 North locations than we are.

Good call. I also believe they can compete in the B12 North.

I doubt NU would schedule CU if they left the conference. Well, maybe this year they would since they meet the creampuff status :wink2: Seriously tho, I think that series would die if CU went to the Pac10, but this crap is all moot anyway.

Agreed. The Pac-10 is all about competing in lots of sports. CU would need a baseball team, a wrestling team, swimming, diving, softball, water polo and gymnastics in order to even be considered. We'd need some major facilities upgrades in order to field those teams, too.

This comes up at least a dozen times a year on the various boards.

It almost happened in 1994 before the inception of the Big XII when the SWC disbanded. The PAC 10 offered CU and Texas and both schools were considering it.

The Texas Governor intervened (a Baylor alum) and helped create the Big XII.

Ever since then, its been a topic of discussion and every poll I have ever seen on our sites its usually almost exactly a 50/50 spilt in favor of it.

My take will always be HELL YES.

Personally have a healthy indifference to many of the Big XII programs and outside of Austin have no real desire to visit any Big XII venues.

CU fits in the PAC 10 much better in terms of culture and academics. We have a HUGE alumni base on the west coast and most PAC 10 cities are easy travel destinations for those in CO.

Hell- the fUCLA and SC games early this decade- we had a good 10K+ fans in those venues.

The only problem here is that the big 10 (11) likely wouldn't want to let Iowa go, the logical (this will never happen) thing for the Big 11 to do is some how get Notre Dumb to join and go 12 teams with a CCG.

For this to really make sense you need to find a way to get the Pac-10 Big 12 and Big -10 to 12 team leagues with CCG's that means you need a high drawing team or three that travels well to round out the conferences.

Of course they wouldn't want Iowa to go, but this is all hypothetical BS anyway, so what difference does it make? If Iowa bolts, they could reasonably call themselves the Big 10 again. Problem solved. If they really want 11 teams, they could add Louisville, Cincinnati or Pitt. Screw ND.

If it means every CU game will be on TV in the Denver area, YES!! And even if that doesn't happen, I still favor it if we can manage to schedule the better half of the Big 12 every couple of years. With a couple OOC games every year, there should be no reason we can't play KU, NU, and OU every few years.

The other reason why I like us joining the Pac10/12 i that it would lead to every conference having a playoff system as the Big10 would have to do something too. Then an overall playoff system would be right around the corner for sure!

I just don't see it happening as our lack of other sports would cause problems with the Pac10 style.

The other possibility is that the Big XI could then move in and target another Big XII team (probably Mizzou, *ebraska or ISU, in order of likelihood) to jump conferences. The Big 10 (XI) would then become the Big XII and the Big XII would become the Big X. The Pac-10 would become the Pac-12 (and remain roman numeral free! :woot:)

We'd be the laughing stock of the PAC-10 this season if we were in their division. The only game or games we would have a chance of winning would be against the Washington schools.

Like maybe TCU or Arkansas? Either team would fit fine with the B12 demographic.

CU is really an outpost in the B12. It would also be an outpost in the Pac 10.

If the Buffs switched to the P10, we'd rival Oregon in smoking dope, playing hacky sack, and hating Californians.

LOL. We beat a WVU team that has a shot at the Big East and we beat our MWC foe. The Pac-1 can't say that. They were a joke OOC, except for USC's defeat of UVa and OSU.

Here is a unlikely scenario, but one that would work. It involves numerous conferences adding/moving teams:

    Big 12
    North
    Oklahoma
    Oklahoma St

    Kansas
    Kansas St
    Nebraska
    Missouri

    South
    Texas
    Texas AM
    Texas Tech
    Baylor
    TCU
Arkansas - Replaced in SEC by S. Florida

    Pac-10
    North
    Oregon
    Oregon St
    Wash
    Wash St
    California
    Stanford

    South
    USC
    UCLA
    Colorado
    Utah or BYU

    Arizona
    Arizona St

    Big 10*
    North
    Iowa
    Iowa St
    Minnesota
    Wisconsin
    Michigan
    Michigan St

    South
    Ohio St
    Illinois
    Penn St
    Indiana
    Purdue
    Northwestern

Under this scenario every conference gets better and includes a CCG. The Big 12 would be stacked.

i would love to see CU in the p10 (as i have said for years and years on all the boards) but your p10 divisions are never, ever going to happen.

the single biggest reason that the p10 hasn't expanded in the last few years is that none of the teams that you have in the north conference want to be separated from usc and ucla. they want to play those schools every year.

so, while you've got it right as to protecting the traditional in-conference rivalries, the schools in the northern division would never vote for this. and, they particularly wouldn't vote for it if the newcomers (CU and team x) get the "prime" spot of the southern division.

the only way to get around this (and you still might not get enough votes) would be to protect the traditional conference rivalries (those games get played annually) and rather than be split into 2 divisions, the remaining in-conference games would get rotated equally every year. i think this would mean that teams like uw and wsu wouldn't get usc every year but they would get them more than once every 3 years like they would in a division format.

this is a very tough issue to overcome.

Absolutely not. I believe CU would whither away in the the PAC 10. I also disagree about the TV package... The Big 12 has a pretty good package at the moment so I wonder why you think it is so bad. I don't see a lot of Pac 10 games getting national hype where the Big 12 seems to be on every week.

I don't think they need to move right now, but I think an exit strategy should be put in place for when Oklahoma and Texas attempt to leave and form a super conference with the SEC and brake apart from the NCAA. Too much money being left on the table being apart of the big 12

Wont ever happen. Super conference would be the last thing any of those teams would do. SEC teams already bitch about how hard it is to come out of the regular season without a loss (luckily the Big XII doesn't complain like this) but you wouldn't see powerhouse programs form a conference like that where it would be damn near impossible to not have a loss or two and ruin their chances at the national championship. None of the top schools would go undefeated anymore (very unlikely at least)

It would make for great football though.
