Not me. I cant get past moving from The Big 12 (the best conference, this year and maybe historically) in the country, and ahem, the MWC (maybe good THIS year). As far as a bigger draw for conference games, I'd MUCH rather watch Oklahoma State with that great offense and a legit natl' title contender, have Nebraska on the conference slate with something at stake, Texas (see Oklahoma State), etc, etc, etc. Air Force would be nice. We play Wyoming.

I've been saying this, let the Fuskers keep dry humping UT/OU for the Big 12 it makes much more sense to compete with the mountain teams anyhow.

I have a real hard time believing that the MWC could put together a financial package attractive enough for CU to jump ship. A real hard time. CU's athletic budget is in the top half of the Big 12. Knutson is a first rate moron.

Plus we would play SDSU and UNLV where the CU alumni from nearby California and Arizona would be able to attend those games for the Buffs. That was something that was not brought up in the article.

I'm still in favor of joining the Pac-10 although. The Big 12 just hasn't been a good marriage of sorts. I had no problems with the Big 8 but since those Texas schools came along for the ride, it just doesn't feel right and in just a couple of years, it would be 15 years of being in the Big 12 and that is a long enough time to determine if we truly do fit in the Big 12.

Been a Buff fan since '88 and I don't understand the pride issue with joining the MWC...it just makes sense and we can still play big name schools in non-conference play especially teams from the Pac-10. I'm down for that.

I don't like it. It's a cop-out, we'd be settling and accepting that we're not as good as Nebraska, Texas and Oklahoma. Probably be something that Talkins would like though. How much sweeter was our 2001 Big XII championship knowing that we crushed Nebraska and beat Texas in the championship game?

Plus, it would hurt our ability to recruit top talent - when I read Rivals, the vast majority of CU recruits say that the appeal of playing against the best teams year-in and year-out is one of the biggest draws to CU.

Someone should probably tell Knutson that Florida and FSU are not in the same conference.

I'm comfortable with the Buffs staying in the Big XII. Nothing against the Mnt. West, but I don't think that would help sell out games.

Pac 10 w/Utah or CSU makes a lot more sense but will never happen because we don't have enough sports for the Pac 10.

the whole article is an excuse for Knudson to touch his Rammie man parts in public about the new indoor facility that is "much better" than the bubble. the print date is July 16, the dead flat doldrums of the off-season. might as well be a "let's name the defense" or "who's got the coolest unis" article for all it's practicality.

i think if we are stuck with the BCS than you *could* put together a legit Mountain States conference if 1. BYU and Utah can remain legit top 25 type teams (can't argue with their wins over OU and Bama. Utah has two BCS W's in the last 5 years, but we need longevity here) and 2. add Boise and poach ASU and U of A from the Pac with sugar plums of dominating in hoops. that probably ain't going to happen, but neither is CU leaving the Big XII for the MWC.

I love how he uses Iowa State and Baylor as the Big XII schools and CSU/Air Force as the MWC schools in his example. Sure CSU and Air Force might sell those 2-3 k tickets that might go unsold against ISU or Baylor. But I have just a small hunch that replacing Nebraska, OU and Texass with New Mexico, Sandy Eggo State and UNLV might just hurt ticket sales a little bit. (And no, dumb****, New Mexico is not a "regional rivalry" for CU....)

Comparison of the MWC verses B12 population

    MWC 16.7 Million
    B12 28.4 Million

Population based on wiki metro areas
MWC = DFW, San Diego, Denver, Las Vegas, Salt Lake, Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, Provo, Santa Fe, Ft. Collins, Cheyenne and Laramie

B12 = DFW, Houston, St. Louis, Denver, San Antonio, Kansas City, Austin, OKC/Norman, Tulsa, Omaha, Des Moines, Lincoln, Lubbock, Waco, Amarillo, Topeka, College Station, Columbia, Manhattan KS, Boulder, Ames and Stillwater.

The MWC would be sunk without DFW and San Diego, which account for over half of those population numbers. DFW doesn't exactly rally around TCU, and The people of San Diego don't plan their weekends around the Aztecs.

So unless the MWC locations double it's existing population, or the population in the B12 gets reduced by half, the attractiveness of CU moving to the MWC just isn't there.

Remember that CU benefits not only from the BCS arrangement, but also from network revenue sharing. This angle was completely missing from the link. Oops.

I couldn't stand the guy as a pitcher, and his anti-CU stance is so blatant that it ruins his professional writing. He's a moron.

As for his argument that the MWC deserves a BCS bid - not going to happen. The BCS is already diluted with the Big East and some seasons with the ACC. Adding another WTF conference only will get other conferences complaining, such as the WAC. I don't think anyone disputes that Utah and BYU are good this year, but they are not always good - just like CSU (good some years, not always).

As for regional rivalries - we have it. We have Nebraska. I would love to see that game become a big game again, but both of our programs need to step it up. If KU somehow stays good, that can turn into a rivalry too. I want to stay with the old Big 8 teams, because those our storied games. Knutson has some short-man syndrome when viewing the Buffs - we do have history and we do have existing rivalries. I'd rather get rid of the CSU game for a BCS team. We can't have that game as our first game - CSU will almost always be more pumped to play it than we are, and some years, they're actually good. We need a fluff game, and then some quality BCS teams.

How about we just crap on all of the blood, sweat and tears of the players who came before and admit we are too soft to compete in a real football conference like the Big-12. I guess if we can owned by CSU up front, the next logical step is to admit that we cannot compete. Hell, why not join the WAC. Our coach has a history of success in that league.

I feel like I can debunk his main points without much real difficulty. If that's the case he must be stupid...

This is total BS. We may not get it directly, but all of the "BCS Money" that the conference gets is pooled and split up among all of the teams. Our share of this money is nothing to shake a stick at and if we moved to the MWC, not only would we lose this, any money we brought in would be diluted among the lower end teams in the conference. This makes no financial sense whatsoever.
There's a lot of stuff wrong here that people have already mentioned. My biggest problem is that rivalries don't get made overnight. Just because you schedule a team close to you doesn't make it a rivalry game. Great rivalries are built over years and have history. Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico aren't rivalries and even if this happened they would not just become rivals overnight. I will admit that he might have a point with the basketball attendance argument but that's the only leg he has to stand on here.

I have an even better idea. Let's not let the Mountain West into the BCS AND let's drop the Big East. This would free up another at-large spot that could be used for the best team out of the two OR could be used for a more deserving team from a BCS conference that would otherwise be left out.

    Just some thoughts...

The whole "BCS conference" thing is bull**** anyway. They should just put the teams ranked 3-10 into a pool and let the major bowls pick from there.
