As much as I despise the fuskers, I had to pass this on

One of my good friends is a lifelong NU fan. He grew up in CO, but his family is from NE and they are all diehard NU fans. I knew his older brother quite well growing up.

His older brother's kid was recently diagnosed with some form of cancer. Apparently he's got a great (~90%) chance of survival and a full recovery, but it's still scary as hell for a ~12 year old kid, let alone his family. And they're not out of the woods yet.

Well, someone in the family called the NU athletic department and both Tom Osborne and Bo Pelini made personal phone calls to talk with the family and the boy. Pelini even had an official NU jersey made up with the kid's last name and favorite number and they sent it out to him, free of charge.

This family is not full of big donors, just regular people. There was no reason for Osborne and Pelini to do what they did other than to be good people. It's gonna make it awfully tough to muster up the hatred like I used to have for them. I'll still want them to lose every game, but maybe only by 1 instead of 50.

Nice story, and I have fusker friends too, but I will still root for everybody to beat them. Just remember Osborne hid guns for his players.

It proves Huskers are people too...just barely, but still people.

Seriously, that is a nice gesture and I hope for a quick recovery for the boy. Nothing makes you feel more powerless than having a sick child.

I heard there was a kid in Illinois who was a long time Buff fan who came down with cancer. Bill McCartney, Rick Neuhisel, Gary Barnett, Dan Hawkins and Mike Bohn all went to his house, cooked dinner for him, found a cure for his cancer, and bought him a brand new Ferrari. That's how we roll.

Just being a smartass. Don't take me seriously.

Sports teams generally are pretty good with charities and with helping out people who have a life threatening diseases etc.

A friend of a friend was sick with cancer and has meanwhile deceased. When his friends let out a beep, he got a jersey signed by the whole squad, a hand written letter by the president and the coach and manager wore arm bands they made for him to show him he isn´t alone for months.

He ended up losing the fight, but they raised 500 € for a local cancer clinic.

So while it might be a business in the end, they usually know how important they are to people and when they get a chance to lighten up their day just a little, they usually do what they can.

Very cool, I have a friend who's 10 year old boy is a survivor of brain cancer. They are big Dallas Cowboys fans and that organization set them up with free skyboxes and got them all kinds of free gear and a tour of the stadium before the game. It was a great experience for the kid and helped him forget about the cancer for a little while. Thank god he's been clear of cancer for a year, I don't know what we would do without him.

Here's hoping the kid makes a 100% recovery.

And then one day hope he's recruited by NU so we can get them for recruiting violations

Just messing, that was actually pretty cool for Pelini to go out of his way and do a little something for someone in need.

Lighten up, dude. Lots of things are more important than football. I'm just glad Osborne and Pelini can see that.
