I don't think it really does affect the record books.

These penalties where teams have to "vacate" wins from past season are ridiculous.

If they really want to penalize teams, then penalize them where it matters most - loss of scholarships, a ban on postseason appearances, or a ban on television appearances.

Didn't OU have to forfeit all of their games in a season a couple years ago? I don't think people are saying oh look OU went 0-12 that year!

Does that mean we get 'Bama's share of the bowl money?

    vacating means nothing.

the ncaa record books are basically unaffected. one of CU's skippy teams vacated all wins one year. it means nothing.

That is what you get when you are 'Bama, $C or OU. I wonder if Myles Brand can still taste that 'Bama fanny he had to kiss....

look up OU's record in 2005 thats the year you are refering to, and no people say OU went 8-5 that year, the least number of wins for OU and Bob Stoops since his 1st season in 1999.... More importantly we talk about how OU, being unranked beat a #4 ranked Oregon Duck team in the Holiday Bowl.....

When a school vacates its wins.... FSU and now Alabama, what it does is takes the wins away from the school that has to vacate the wins. the game against the opponent is removed from the opponent's record books. So if this holds up what it means to CU is, as far as CU's record, they never played 'Bama in the Independence Bowl and finished the 2007 season at 6-6 not 6-7.

This is laughable. They vacate wins and don't lose a single scholarship, and are placed on probation for the third time in a decade. Do they watch the probation timer and go full steam ahead every time the clock hits zero? CU had the goofy trainer table incident, which isn't even a violation any more and still received loss of scholarships and probation, talk about a double standard.

On a side note, it is interesting that while CU can't count the 2007 Independence Bowl as a win, it is no longer a loss.

The football program, which will not lose future scholarships, and the other 15 teams have been put on three years' probation -- the third probation penalty for university athletics in the last decade. Alabama also was ordered to pay a $43,900 fine.
The whole thing is bull $hit - that's a slap on the wrist - wow a $44,000 fine. As far as the record books go who really cares - the fact is the NCAA is a joke. Until you lose scholarships, it's nothing. The NCAA is too scared of Alabama to really dig deep, same for all the big time programs. Is there anybody out there that thinks Reggie Bush was not paid at USC? But hey, how bout dat Hawkins, beat Bama on his first try!

Hawk's record just improved to 14-22. Big whoop!
.388 is so much better than .378.

CU needs to shut up and start winning some games.

"Former Miami athletics director Paul Dee, chairman of the committee on infractions, said 201 student-athletes improperly obtained textbooks from the school's bookstore. Dee said four football players were the worst offenders, obtaining books worth betwen $2,700 and $3,950. Dee said the athletes improperly obtained textbooks worth approximately $40,000.
The NCAA identified seven Alabama football players who intentionally obtained textbooks improperly, Dee said. The NCAA has asked Alabama officials to identify the games in which the ineligible players competed in during the 2005-07 seasons for the purpose of vacating those victories."

What does that mean and why is that a penalty?

What it means is that if you do something minor wrong at CU you lose scholarships and if you do something wrong at a major school you will basically get nothing. That is what it means. Total bull**** form the NCAA. Again. The only thing I am shocked at is that I am shocked.:sad2:

It means they got discounts (free ones?) on textbooks because they were athletes.

From what I've heard they were getting free textbooks under their athletic scholarships, but the books were not for them, they were for other students.

I would have to guess that they were using their schollies to get books, then selling the books to other students - turning their schollies in to cash.... which seems like a much bigger problem that getting undercharged for training table meals, which got CU a worse punishment...

....NCAA officials indicated that sanctions would have been more severe had any evidence shown that the 'Bama athletes actually cracked the textbooks open.

Well duh. Why would a 'Bama football player need textbooks?
