Sounds like Irwin is going to get every chance to take the job, and that he is taking advantage of the opportunity.

The good news for the Adams and the Buffs running game is that Irwin now more resembles a tight end than at any time in his career. In a little over a year he’s gone from about 230 pounds to just under 250, giving his 6-3 frame more of a true TE look.

Plus, in spring drills Irwin began playing like a true tight end, according to Adams: “The guy who came out of the spring as the most improved was Sean Irwin . . . he’s a guy to watch. I’m excited to see what he can do. He has just made so much improvement in every phase, whether it was the first spring to last fall to this spring to now I’m looking for another big jump from him. He’s a pretty talented guy, explosive in the run game and really learning a lot in the passing game. I’m excited to see what he’s capable of.”

There are legitimate concerns about the pass offense this year. Young QB, young WRs and an OL that hasn't worked together a ton while having some guys whose strength lies somewhere other than the backpedal.

But I am gaining confidence that this will be the best run blocking group since Barnett was our coach. Besides the OL, we've got a TE in Irwin who can actually block. Riar Geer was the last time we had that. And I like what I'm hearing about our FBs for when we want to go with a big set.

In 2014, I don't expect 3rd and 2 to be a passing down any more.

Count this as the most depressing of the position breakdowns... Eeesh. We really need a young guy to breakout and become a stud.

It's really a shame that TE got so bad. We had a long string of great ones. Hard to believe we are this thin.
