I'm going to start a thread like this every week from here on out, as a place to compile some memories for each team that we have played for so long but are now leaving. Good memories, bad memories, gameday experiences, road trips to visiting stadiums, will you miss the series, etc. - please post them here.

This will be the 75th and (speculating) possibly last meeting with Missouri. Mizzou holds a 40-31-3 edge in the series. Prior to the last four "contests," CU had won 18 of the previous 21 matchups.

the one play I'll always remember that involved Mizzou was the Nebraska Kick/catch man they have gotten screwed by the refs a few times in their history.

Aside from the 1990 game being burned into my memory, the 2002 game sticks out. I was in Columbia for the 2nd time (1994), and witnessed a punishing Buffs running attack (C. Brown +200, Purify +100) take a 27-7 lead in the 2nd half, only to give up three straight TDs to Mizzou (a Robert Hodge pick-6 helped) and trail 28-27. C. Brown took over in the 4th and the eventual OT period as the Buffs forced a fumble in OT and won 42-35.

I find it difficult to hate Mizzou fans to this day because I remember how they were in the '80s and '90s and before 2006. They were a tormented fan base, I always felt that CU had alot in common with Mizzou fans, Mizzou usually played CU tough but lost (after '85 at least), and I had really good experiences in Columbia. I will miss this rivalry a lot, but the last four years have severely damaged my feel-good relationship with Mizzou, not only because of the beatdowns but because Mizzou fans have changed with their recent success and seem to really look down on Colorado. Regardless, I will miss the rivalry.

    Favorite game: 1990

The 1990 game sticks out because of all the Hub bub surrounding it. I remember the losses more than the wins. I remember the 84 game where Missouri ran for over 500 yards and beat us 52-7. They ran off tackle all day and we could not stop them - we then beat them the next 12 years in a row. I remember the 98 game when the players said they lost their intensity getting off the bus.

Ben Kelly's INT in OT comes to mind. The OT fumble in Columbia. 1990 of course. The NU/Mizzou kick TD. And of course the recent drubbings. Hopefully we can end this on a good note.

I used to think that CU-MU was a nice, understated rivalry of sorts. And since Mac and Barney are both MU guys, we do owe them/have a connection. As a kid, I was vexed they had (mostly) the same colors as us. That didn't really make sense to me. I'm speaking here of the Crowder-Mallory unis and color scheme. I really liked Phil Bradley (the longtime Mariner outfielder) when he was MU's qb. Along with Turner Gill and JC Watts in the first era of option run/pass QB's. He was fun to watch and obviously a great athlete since he played in MLB forever it seemed.

After Warren Powers had some decent teams, they went into a hiring toliet with Bob Stull and Woody Widenhofer (sp?) and then Larry Smith (who also had a couple deece teams)...but was mostly a disappointment on the backend of his career.

since they've fisted us 3 times in a row, screw em.

I also think while a very very good basketball coach, Norm Stewart is not the automatic, almost John Wooden or Dean Smith super-legend that MU fan thinks he is.

the Golden Girls are generally pretty smoking though. Rue McClanahan posts in 3,2,1....

My favorite memory of playing the Tiggers was when I was a student (waaaaaay back in time), the entire Marching Mizzou band came out for the game. It was twice the size of CU's band, and practiced at like 8:00 am on Farrand Field. For some stupid reason, I went out and watched them practice, and was highly impressed with them. Back then, the home team won virtually every game, so the Buffs won the game, but Mizzou won the battle of the bands.

My favorite MU moment was when I had tickets in the senior/grad student section of Folsom around 10 years ago. Their band came out at halftime with some very hot girls, all performing for the students (okay, maybe it was just a performance for all the fans, but the great looking girls were right in front of the senior section). Had us all mesmerized and they got a standing ovation when it was over. Shocking considering how we used to (still do?) treat the opposing bands

That article is ****ing awesome, thank you for finding it and posting it. I'm assuming Outside the Lines this weekend will be talking about the Fifth Down, then? Alot of people still don't know abou the guy having a heart attack and dying during the 2nd down timeout.

Alot of Buff fans dismiss the Fifth Down, or simply want to forget it. To me, it's one of the most unique moments in sports, and something that will NEVER happen again, and is unthinkable that it happened in 1990, let alone on our way to a NC. To me, the game footage might as well be the Zapruder film. Given that this is the last time we will likely ever play Missouri (maybe in a bowl game), this is also likely the last time that the Fifth Down gets much attention.

I actually liked the idea that CU thought about about punting the ball to Missouri on a 3rd down in the 1991 match up, as a way of saying "here, take your 5th down back". If CU by any chance is throttling the tigers, I'd love to see it happen tomorrow. Not only would it be retribution for all the rehashing of the 5th down story every year by Missouri fans who can't get over it, but also for the beat downs we received in recent times. I'd love Hawkins for this, but just for one day.

Mizzou's Internet community is a mixed bag.

TuffTiger set the bar for a rival poster with that tuff as rain schtick.

And the gold standard for hating kNU exists on a Mizzou fan blog.

But other than those two shining examples, the rest of Mizzou nation is weak sauce. Their fans don't come over here to troll and dish out smack. Mizzou fans are mostly a no-show during game week. I can't remember the last time somebody posted a link to a tiger board thread. It's almost like we're not even in the same conference.

I've never seen more hate for nebraska than on Shaggybevo. And there was a great KSU article on how much nebraska fans sucked that I read during the off-season. In fact, relatively speaking, when it comes to hating nebraska, CU isn't so bad. Those pious ****s are really disliked around this conference.

Granted that I don't follow Shaggybevo, but do you think it's possible that they hate fuskers for different reasons? Mainly because of nu's departure, UT's security (as well as the conference) is at risk? You know, for financial selfish reasons? UT doesn't share the same type of hatred as CU's fanbase do, for we hate the fuskers from head to toe for a myriad of reasons and I obviously don't need to name those.

Okay. I've got in-laws in Missouri. Kansas City. They're actually transplants from nebraska. So in-laws, plus nebraska, plus Mizzou makes for a pretty awkward Thanksgiving (or a great one, as I was visiting for 2001).

Anyway, I was the in-laws around the 2005 timeframe and while shopping, stopped by a sports paraphanalia shop. I always stop at those hat stores in my quest for the perfect CU ballcap. You never know where you'll find it.

I didn't see any CU gear, so I asked the clerk if they had any. He said "No, we don't carry that, 'cause Colorado sucks." First off, the guy's job was to sell things to customers, not to **** on someone else's team. But, at the time, CU was the North Champions (kinda like being king of the dip****s, I know) and had absolutley dominated the Tigers for years. Where did this guy get off? I went ballistic about his customer service. My wife, uncharacteristically, told him to go **** himself, and then we left fuming. Later we found a link to the store's headquarters and filed a complaint.

If you sell sports stuff, and you don't cater to fans, what the **** are you doing?

Anyway, I'd never really thought about Mizzou one way or another back then, but the experience made me start not liking the Tigers.

If I remember correctly, there was a year or two where Mizzou fans were very obnoxious and trolled quite a bit on our boards. And a lot of **** was talked on their boards, just a couple really heated years. Maybe 2005ish?
