I assume the awards and all-conference teams are announced after the CCG?

Solder is a 1st team lock. Speedy may have an outside shot, but RB competition is stiff with Hunter and Thomas. And considering his limited mintues, Cody's numbers are solid, especially his 3:1 TD to Int ratio.

    Scotty may get HM.

Speedy getting 1300+ on a losing team is pretty impressive.

Cody won't sniff the team. If a half-year starter is represented it will (and should be) Tannehill at ATM.

1st and 2nd team will be from Martinez/Jones/Griffin/Gabbert/Weedon

    HM: maybe Tannehill squeezes in.

The mention of Cody, the 9th rated passer in the Big 12, is pretty funny.

Solder will be first team, Miller and Smith probably second team. Beyond that, not much.

In addition to Solder, Miller and Smith, Speedy "should" get 2nd team; Betty and McKnight "should" get HM

Offensive freshman of the year went to Taylor Martinez (no surprise). Looks like Solder got OL of the year, did not even know they gave out that award.

I guess we can't be too mad. We went 2-6, are leaving the conference, and still got two 1st teamers.

Good catch Snow. That is a slap in the face there. He had at least 85 yards rushing in 7 of the 8 conference games, including four 100-yard games.

Speedy currently has the 10th most rushing yards by a RB in the nation, yet he couldn't crack his conference's HM list. He finished 3rd in the Big XII. He would have finished 1st in the SEC and ACC, 2nd in the Big Ten and Pac 10, and 3rd in the Big East.

    Unbelievable.

    How do you figure?

    Stewart - 290 carries, 4.5ypc, 1318 yards, 10tds
    Helu - 166 carries, 6.7ypc, 1120 yards, 10tds

Pretty equal but Helu averages over 2 yards more per touch.

Speedy was our offense. Helu was a 2d or 3d option on running plays. He had a good amount of long runs, and almost all of those were caused by great blocking or by teams focusing on Martinez. Helu had a good YPC, but wasn't a better player.

Well for starters, you can't call a 200-yard difference "equal". Maybe that's Husker math. Helu is 15% short, which is significant. In other words, Daniel Thomas was as far ahead of Stewart as Stewart was ahead of Helu.

Secondly, Helu milked his big 300+ yard day. Outside of that, he only broke 100 yards rushing once (107) in conference play. Meanwhile, Stewart had four games over 120+ in conference play and two over 175+.

Finally, Speedy was a weapon in the passing game, as he had 250 yards MORE than Helu did receiving.

If Stewart had a Longhorn or that ugly ass N on his helmet, he would have been recognized. I have no doubt about that.

It might just be Husker math but I have a feeling that if Helu had gotten an extra 124 carries (like Speedy did) he might have been able to get 200 more yards. And here I thought the award was for a running back. My apologies. I guess I was also unaware that when running backs have big days (like Helu's 307 yards against MU or presumably Speedy's 195 against KSU) we subtracted those from the averages.

Helu was a 2nd option on a lot of running plays. I'll agree with that. That makes the fact that he had over 1,000 yards rushing even more impressive. He made the most of his touches as much as anyone outside of Kendall Hunter.

Agree to disagree I guess. Speedy is a damn good ball player.
