"Black Out" the Jayhawks

any ideas where in Boulder area to obtain an inexpensive black CU long sleeve T? Or a sweatshirt (this second option as you guys mentioned CEC gets hot when crowded)?

big moment in my Buff-fan assimilation: officially investing in CU gear - feeling compelled at this point since they're going to the trouble of having a Black out game. Gotta look good for the cameras, impress ESPN, get Gameday here for the AZ game, etc..

I don't know about inexpensive, but the Hill has the bookstore and some other shops. Might also check Sports Authority and/or Target.

Taking GameDay out of the equation -- what's the bigger game this one or UofA?

Zona

Beating KU would do more for the national perception of CU basketball, but Zona is who we're trying to kick off the mountain top.

That's probably true but with a big day of cfb ahead, I'm not sure how much it will register outside the flatirons. I keep talking about eliminating GameDay from the conversation but when we play them assuming ESPN comes here, that's going to be crazy IMO.

I think 'zona, just because of conference implications.

despite the current rankings, Kansas is above Arizona when it comes to college hoops royalty pecking order. Nothing would signal times have changed in Boulder like a win over KU. However, Arizona is a conference game and is part of a brutal ending stretch. I'd rather take a win over Zona if it's either/or. You don't want your stock to be sinking in late February/early March and our home stretch runs the risk of that happening.

I would like the KU special with a 2XL UA drink and a side of Okie Lite to go please.

Would you like to make that a combo and add a small fUCLA?

Seriously though, I was pumped for the UofA game last year, but Idk if I have ever been as excited for a basketball game as I am for the one tomorrow. Buffs can show the nation they are here to stay with a win tomorrow.

Not to be Debbie Downer here, but outside of CU/KU fans and diehard cbb fans, I'm not sure how much a win would register with a big day of cfb and it largely overlapping with the SEC Championship. I think Arizona might actually be a bigger win even without GameDay.

I disagree. Top 25 teams get lots of airtime on ESPN. The highlights of this game will loop over and over on ESPN all afternoon long. A lot of people may not tune in to watch the game, but a lot of people will definitely see it.

Let's say Colorado wins this game on the 11 PM SC, what time do the highlights appear on the air? I doubt it's the first segment unless there's some unusual and/or controversial finish.

I think the SEC Championship/Big 10 Championship games and arguing who should play FSU(assuming they win) will be much bigger, along with some coverage of Jameis Winston for Heisman talk. College hoops takes a backseat before January for the most part anyways.

I'm just saying if I'm not a fan of KU/CU, I probably watch the beginning of this game, flip back/forth at commercials (at best), and tune in at the end of it's coming down to the wire.

If I remember right, the way that ESPN works is they will take a big highlight from the night and kick off sports center with that (like last week, it was auburn/tide) and then start to work their way around THAT geographic region, then move on to another geographic region or related story. So We COULD be the top spot in sports center, but with all the football, it's unlikely.
People do know kansas basketball to be good (even though they lost to the topeka ymca) so a win against them would have people unlike us saying in march "well colorado did beat KU, they are pretty good maybe i'll put them in my sweet 16".

In terms of overall victories, this would be a good win nationally. However if we can beat zona it has far more implications (conf title, p12 tourney seeding, etc) in terms of our day to day game. They'd both be good wins, but when it comes down to it, I think the zona one may put us in a better position in march than a win tomorrow would.

KU fan here-

This will be a good game. It's nice to see your program doing so well.

We haven't played very well over the last 3 games. Some of that is playing 3 games in 3 days with a young team, and some of it is that we were exposed a bit for our deficiencies.

I like our big guys chances matching up with CU. Ellis and Embiid have been pretty impressive and we are loaded with depth at the 4 and 5 if the game is called tight and fouls start to mount.(Black, Traylor, Lucas, and in an emergency Wesley who was a rotation player for our national runner up team 2 years ago but is now our 6th "big")

Self just announced that Frank Mason will start at point guard tomorrow so we are now starting frosh at the 1, 2, and 3. Obviously our starting guards are very athletic and talented, but they lack a bit in their ability to hit outside shots. I think that Mason is starting because of his defense/transition skills...the more stops we get on D=more transition opportunities, and we have to personnel to be pretty lethal in transition at the rim with Wiggins, Selden, Embiid, Black, Ellis etc etc. I was a bit surprised that Mason will start, but obviously Self is trying to figure out how to get Wiggins and Selden going and having a pit-bull type of point guard hounding the ball on D might help us get stops and start running.

Our best perimeter shooters all come off the bench, (Tharpe, White III, Greene, Frankamp). We really need to tighten up our rotation but we have yet to have White, Greene, or Frankamp create separation from the others to emerge as our 5th guard/zone-buster-shooing-specialist.

Overall, I think KU is a better basketball team than CU, but on the road in what you guys seem to think will be a hostile environment, it's probably a coin-flip type of game. Best of luck after Saturday.

It's been a few years since we've played...I'm nearly positive that the "Allen Fieldhouse Mountain West" (Bramlage Coliseum is "Allen Fieldhouse West" to me) days are over, but you can probably understand my perspective given what's happened in the past;)

I understand the perspective, I am just saying you are wrong. The KU fans making the trek are going to be in for a totally new experience

why is a kansas fan choosing a bigXII-2 etc name? Why would anyone be proud of that conference?

Y'all got no idea what you're walking into tomorrow

Welcome and good post. And I'd love to respond, but I'm blinded by hatred and I honestly cannot objectively look at this game. So welcome, I hope you enjoy your time here, and I hope we beat the hell out of you.

KU fan, let me take a second and warn you. I appreciate you coming over here to talk basketball, and maybe in a couple hours some people will be glad to talk hoops, however we despise anything from the Big Texas conference. We loathe baylor in ways you cannot imagine. Our disdain for Texas is only rivaled for our disdain for KU. CU fans tomorrow will be rabid. Jayhawk fans should not go anywhere without a buddy. CEC will be as volatile as I have seen it and I advise your wheat loving friends to take caution.

You personally will receive a lot of flack here, and it isn't personal. We just hate everything about your school.

OK. Conference smack against a league that has 4 top 25 teams and is the #1 RPI league in the country. Gotcha.
Using RPI as a benchmark for getting into the tourney? Very good, because the committee is stupid.
Using RPI as a benchmark for who has better teams? Very stupid.
Using rankings when the pac 12 has the highest ranked team? Very stupid.
