MB was on with Joel and CJ. I'll try to summarize:

-CU always planned to go to the Pac 10 in '12, NU and UU making the move in'11 has shuffled the deck and CU is moving into what is in it's best interest which may include a move by '11, or not.

-The shuffling of conferences was what led to a one and done at the Shoe, it wasn't a purely $$$$ motivated move although $2MM is nice. Also got commitment for tOSU to play some BB at the CEC. MB jumped in and was noticeably perturbed at JK's lead in that CU had fallen in stature and couldn't get a home and home with tOSU. Methinks there is some bad blood between MB and JK

-50 (yes he thought that was a big deal) season tickets sold in two hours on Monday. MB sort of implied it was related to naming the QB and went on to cite TH as one of the exciting things going on at CU. Said season ticket sales were off about 12% going into fall camp. (Ouch).

    - Talked up the three game plan with Hawaii, UGA and KjSU, saying KjSU could be the last B12 game, reitierated he thought those questions about when the Pac 10 move would happen would be answered by 10/31/10.

-CJ tossed a couple of softballs at him after he jumped in on JK, JK stayed out of the interview after that.

-Standard texts followed (Why does DH have a job) ( Ask MB why he kept DH) (MB and DH hand us a turd and tell us it's a truffel, and get mad if we question it)

MB said he would be back anytime. I have to give MB credit, he doesn't shy away for the line of fire.

Well, the AD can't hide from the numbers now. The dropoff in season tickets renewals is significant and they cannot chalk it up to the economy.

12%. Even with the move to the pac 12. Ouch. Hence all his talk about cutting the budget for this next year.

I wonder where things sit now with tickets? that is about 2400 off the numebrs from last year. There seems to have been some camp excitement, if they could close it to around 6-7% we'd be in much better shape.

I think what hurts season ticket re-ups almost as much as anything is that this season's home schedules (minus Georgia) sucks.

So if that's 2,400 tickets -- and the lowest priced ticket is $235 -- that's a loss of $500,000+ (not even including the seat tax / donation required to just buy season tickets)

That's pretty substantial in a budget like CU's.

Yes, but it's not as bad as the $3MM they would have had to pay him to go away. They're ahead of the game.

Just curious here. Why can't they chalk it up to the economy?

One of our resident bean counters could probably estimate it far better, but just using my limited experience, I'd say there would be 2400 tickets @ $300 per + seat tax of $100 x 2400 plus average parking and concession revenue loss $20 x 2400 x 6= about 1.248 MM. So yeah, they are ahead of the game.

So then you think it's mostly related to the economy? Interesting.

And they are also offering recent alums 4 season tickets for $500, so some of the season ticket holders aren't even spending much money. Those are basically student prices.

It's closer to $1mm once you factor in donations and higher ticket prices for better seats. Let's face it, most season ticket holders are not sitting in the end zone.

And a lot of those folks will not come back when Hawkins is gone.

i know i didn't renew because i can count on at least two of the games having the 4 for 40 deal. the rest i can buy a cheap ticket close to game time and hit up the fifty yard line student seats.

Oh, is that what I wrote? I just don't think you can blow the economy off as not having any effect on season ticket sales. I'm sure that if you polled the 12%, you'd get a multitude of reasons. And last years record would be a big one. But so would the economy.

This is the first time I've heard heard Mike Bohn do something like this. Got very agitated at that question. It seemed like he wanted to tell Klatt exactly how he felt about him.

My read as well. MB seems to have a thin skin about the lack of success CU is having ( and it should bug him immensely) especially when it comes from what I am sure he percieves as the pro-GB camp.

At the end of last year, I think it was Alfred who had GB on, who said he was let go for not winning enough, and then MB came on and Al asked him if that was the reason and MB was weaving and dodging like nobody's business. I'm sure he's well aware that his hand picked GB replacement has been a catastrophic failure so far and doesn't care to have his nose rubbed in it by someone he perceives as being in the GB camp.

I heard that interview, and if I remember right it happened after the fusker game and the decision to retain Hawkins. Alfred was pretty upset and had some harsh words for Bohn, and Bohn finally just had to say "I'm sorry you feel that way Alfred." Even then Bohn didn't sound as annoyed as he did with Klatt today.

    Well explain your post then.

Is the ****ty football the overriding reason for a 12% drop in renewals or not? Your reply just kinda tip-toed around the issue.

The economy is only an issue because people don't think they are getting value for their money. For the casual fan, CU football was not the best use of the entertainment dollar last season. Add in the diehards who didn't renew out of protest or change in financial circumstances, and there just aren't many people willing to take their place.

So, sure, some of that 12% number is due to the economy. But it's an indirect link based on value, not affordability. I would bet that if CU had a breakout winning season last year that season ticket sales would be up. What do you think?

There are quite a few ppl I know who have not renewed. And they always list this reason (sometimes there are others, but this is the common denominator): We suck. that is on Hawk.

Just anecdotal, I know, but thats what I hear every time. Ppl don't want to see a ****ty half ass effort product

Pretty much. The people I know who aren't renewing blame it all on Hawkins. Tired of his bullsh*t. Tired of sucking. Tired of being fed a line of garbage every time we sh*t the bed against some dog ass team.
