Being announced on ESPN right now.

This looks like the Big 12 will stay together if the MWC is indeed going to expand and they are trying to pull in top teams outside of the big 12

    Boise State to MWC

OK, I know it's not CU football if it needs to be moved, go for it...

Anyway, ESPN just reported BSU has been extended an invite by the MWC. Ewes are gonna have some fun now! Wonder when they start extending invites to the B12 remnants?

Just broke on ESPN TV, no link yet..

Looks like either the Big XII is staying together or going away entirely. I think if BSU thought there was a chance the Big XII would be trying to add a handful of teams to put the league back together, they would hold off.

From the MWC's perspective, they could still pick up 4-5 Big XII stragglers and not be more than a 16 team conference. And in the end I suspect KU and Mizzou, at least, will have better options (even if Mizzou is apparently the most hated program in the Big XII offices these days...)

I guess this means there is now a spot open in the Big Sky for KjSU?

I have said before I don't buy UT giving up their throne in the B12 so easy. The B12 will survive IMO. Boise St. to the MWC is evidence the B12 will survive. If it weren't going to stay together, the MWC wold wait to try and poach MU, KU, KjSU and maybe Baylor, before they would take Boise. Adding BSU puts th MWC at 10, I believe, subject to further raiding by the B12 and Pac 10/11.

Hmm, so that would point to the 10-team Big 12 with no title game. But I've also heard that if the Big 12 stays together they will formally vote out Mizzou. So that would be a couple of strange shifts.

I thought they would take the P.E. credit as long as you have a D or better. My bad.

This seems to lessen the chance of Utah joining the Pac 10 (Henderson on a morning radio show in Denver said Utes to Pac was not happening)... does Mizzou or Kansas take an invite?

I bet the B12 adds a couple of teams to keep the title game. BYU, UU, TCU and possibly UNM are options. I guess you could add Memphis too along wih UH or SMU.

Is BSU replacing TCU or BYU though? I am hoping both of those schools get an invite to the Big12 to keep the conference together so that the PAC will remain just 11 schools or at most 12 with Utah.

Amazingly stupid move if they do this. Therefore, I hope they do it. Gawd, that would set a whole new standard of stupidity.

The Pac wouldn't extend any invitations today, because they're in the midst of gladhanding and smiling for the cameras in Boulder as we speak. If nothing happens next week, then I think the B12 will stay together in some manner, shape or form. I also think that if that happens, then the Pac extends the invite to Utah and everybody calls it good.

Secret hope? Texass keeps the kids together just long enough for Mizzou, A&M, KU and OU to find homes in the B10 or SEC, leaving the whorns in a conference with Tech, KSU, ISU, OSU and Baylor. Oh, sweet justice. Too good to hope for, as we've had our share of good karma in the last 24 hours, but man, that would be incredible.

Henderson doesn't know his head from his asshole. Honestly, I think we get better info here than he does.

Not bad move for BSU. I wonder why they didn't hold out to see if they could get a B12 replacement invite. Iguess Junc's specualtion the B12 is ead may have more wheels than I give it credit for, I still think the B12 survives and adds some teams. Maybe they told BSU they wouldn't make the cut, who knows?

I now want the B-12 to implode. That would save us from having to pay an exit penalty right?

    :yeahthat:

If the Big 12 stays together I agree that they'll add 2 teams to keep the title game (or 3 teams if they kick out misery ).

It always does. Seems like you'd know that by now... :smile2:

The other possibility is that this is a bit like the Pac-10 invite to CU. The MWC may not know what's coming, but they know they want the smurfs. So invite them now and go from there. From BSU's side, they might figure the MWC is going to be a better landing place for them than any band of Big XII survivors that might issue them an invite. A league with Baylor, ISU, KjSU and maybe Mizzou and KU isn't exactly a natural fit for them. Even adding the major Texass schools still makes a pretty awkward fit for BSU...

It sucks cause I want them to implode so no penalties but I want them to stay together so the Big 12 south doesn't come with us.

Actually, the spot's open in the WAC now. But w/BSU leaving, might as well be the Big Sky.

I see your point. Guess I would rather give up the cheddar than be grouped in with the Texas Syndicate.

Not necessarily. I think 75% of the conference teams (9) must vote to dissolve the league in order for the penalites to disappear. No way Baylor, KU, KSU, ISU, and possibly Mizzou let the rest off the hook when each would receive roughly $15mil.

This is how I see it as well. I think the B12 will continue, and will charge CU and NU the full exit fee - which amounts to $18MM if I understand it correctly. Keep in mind that this can be paid out over several years, so it's not going to really adversely impact CU's bottom line, IMO. It certainly won't impact NU, who could write a $9MM check tomorrow if they wanted to. At the end of the day, each remaining member school can actually add to their bottom line by charging the exit fee, thus another reason to try to keep the conference intact.

I was hearing that the exit penalty is paid over 8 years

I figured the WAC would poach a Big Sky team to replace Boise, and that is why there would be a spot for KjSU. I never thought KjSU's academics would cut it in a move straight to the WAC.

Good. I think having BYU, TCU, and Boise together is definitely a good thing for college football. All those programs have the ability to be legit, but we never really know because of the quality of their opponents. Having them play each other in the regular season is a good thing. I know for damned sure that I'd be watching a TCU vs Boise game if it was on TV.

Its a great proactive move for the MWC - that gets them a step closer to a provisional BCS bid as of today's date. Who knows how everything else plays out in the coming weeks.

So, we're looking at the MWC looking something like:

    BYU
Utah (maybe, if they don't leave)
    CSU
    Air Force
    Wyoming
    New Mexico
    San Jose St
    UNLV
    TCU

    and adding:
    Boise State
    Kansas
    Kansas St
    Baylor
    Iowa State or Mizzou

Does that really look like a BCS AQ conference to you? It doesn't to me if we're looking ahead to the potential super conferences.
