I saw Bryce Givens on campus today.

So we know he is healthy enough to be at school. I also saw him walking into Dal Ward, so he is healthy enough to train.

I had seen Bryce a couple of times early in the fall. After seeing him today there was a noticeable difference in his size. He has OBVIOUSLY been able to gain and obtain weight... This was my encouraging news of the day..

He'll probably get around 260 pancake blocks this season, 275 or so next season.

Awesome news. Man, between him, Major, Simas, Tau, Polk, Katoa, and the the others coming back from injury this team has some friggin talent. Now if we could get the coaching in order, less injuries, and some luck, this team can compete for the Big XII.

That is good news ... what an O-line we have, USC would be proud of these recruits:

    #2 OT 2007, Miller
    #12 OT 2008, Givens
    #7 OG 2008, Tuioti-Mariner
    #17 OG 2007, Behrens

And didn't somebody say Mike Iltis was a monster last spring?

Yeah, I had to make the roster change in my NCAA 2009 season after redshirting Givens in 2008. He took over for Solder who struggled mightily and my team was rolling after that. I moved Solder back to TE and when I ran double TE formations with Solder/Givens on the left side nobody could stop Scott or Sumler in the running game.

Totally off topic, I know, but that just means EA Sports really likes this kid too! HAHA

Grimes was talking about Solder in terms of a future NFL LT at the end of the year. He has the mobility, foot quickness, and a huge frame with looong arms and good hands.
What he lacks is 20-30lbs of bulk and a chance to develop his technique. Remember that last year was his first year at tackle and considering all that happened he did fairly well.

Nate will be a junior next year and Givens will be a RSFrosh. If Givens stays at tackle it is logical for him to be a back-up next season. I can easily see him rotating in as a back-up his soph season and being a force at tackle for his Jr year. The other logical choice is for him to move inside to guard. He is actually a better match heightwise for guard than Solder or Miller.

After the O-line situation we have had the past few years it is very nice to have the problem of figuring out where an abundance of quality players will fit in.

I think we were actually referring to ScottyBuff's dynasty in NCAA09, more than the actual literal sense...

    Ringo confirmed the weight gain.

Givens told him he's up to 280, and that's following a recent battle with the stomach flu.

Along these OT lines ... has Miller applied for a medical redshirt? Does he qualify for the 20% rule? I don't remember which game he got hurt in.

Keep our fingers crossed ... though he might be ready to declare after 2010 anyway.

Miller doesn't seem like the type of kid who would bolt to the NFL early.

Yeah, I love that Solder has a year of in-game training at LT, and Givens had red-shirt year to recover from his hand injury and gain some pounds. That gives us a 2-year gap between potential starters which is great. From all the recruiting noise about Givens I would doubt that he moves from the tackle position, but whether that is LT or RT, not sure.

I really like our development at the OT positions with Miller/Solder, Givens/Dannewitz/Adkins (plus Jack Harris & David Bakhtiari) anybody know whats up with Sione Tau?

If he were a projected 1st round draft pick after 2010, I'd say he'd be a little loony to NOT leave early.

Miller seems like a smart kid who, if he's a real candidate to come out early, will look at all his options. As 96 mentioned, if he's looking at a first round grade he'd be stupid not to go early or at least explore that.

Scrolling the roster I see that Bryce is now officially listed as a guard instead of a tackle on cubuffs.com....I know there has been much speculation about him moving inside or not...I'm all for the best players seeing the field and with Solder coming on strong at the end of last year and Miller definately not moving anywhere this is the best option to do so

Add another 6'6" talented guy in there and imagine the possibilities

How does our line rank height/weight wise in the country? It has to be up there. And what I like about it is that it's not really just fat asses. For the most part, these dudes are athletes.
