A poster-child for the grayshirt-redshirt plan, Derek McCartney will only be entering his “junior” year of eligibility on the field next season, though it seems he’s been around forever.

That feeling is very welcome in the Colorado Buffaloes locker room where McCartney is the consummate teammate, leader and student athlete. The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder has put to bed any notions that his scholarship was a favor to the first family of Colorado Football by becoming one of the Buffaloes’ premier edge rushers.

McCartney has notched 8.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and even an interception in his first two seasons but, in this feature, we’re more interested in what coach he would go to war with or if a hotdog is a sandwich.
