The Colorado Buffaloes won a road game in the Pac-12. No, that is not a typo.

It certainly wasn’t pretty, but The Buffs stormed into Corvallis, Oregon and broke their 14-game conference losing streak with a 17-13 victory over the Oregon State Beavers.

The Buffs trailed 7-3 at the end of the first quarter, but that score would be the only time the Buffs would trail in the game. A Sefo Liufau to Nelson Spruce touchdown connection with just over 9 minutes remaining in the second quarter would give Colorado a 10-7 lead and they would not trail again.

The game went to half with a 10-10 score and stayed that way until early in the fourth quarter when Sefo Liufau plunged into the end zone from four yards out to give the Buffs a 17-10 lead. Those seven points would be enough to send the Buffs home singing the fight song.

There was a slight scare at the end when Oregon State had a chance to orchestrate a game-winning drive, but a Chidobe Awzie interception sealed the game for the Buffaloes and sent a very emotional Mike MacIntyre into tears on the sideline.

    Sefo Liufau:

The Buffaloes quarterback put in a vintage, gritty performance to lead his team to the win. Like anything else in the game, his stat line wasn’t exactly pretty, as he threw for just 143 yards on 16 completions, but Liufau did the most important thing for the Buffs and that was protect the ball, he yielded zero turnovers and accounted for two touchdowns. One of those touchdowns came on the ground, where Liufau had nine more carries than any other Buff (18).

It wasn’t anything special, but the Buffaloes quarterback did just enough for his team to get a victory, and that’s all that matters.

In a game short for highlights, the easy choice here is Chidobe Awuzie’s game-clinching interception.

3 – Nelson Spruce’s six catches moved into third all-time on the Pac-12 career receptions list (256)

31:47 – The amount of time the game was tied for, longest for any game CU has played this year.

98 – The amount of attempts since Sefo Liufau’s last interception.

“It was a total relief, it was just joy from my toes to the top of my head for our kids, for our coaches, for our fans, for my family, for everybody.” -Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre

The Buffs ended their 14 game conference losing streak which could go a very long way towards the continuation of Mike MacIntyre’s career at CU. Colorado moves to 4-4 on the season with five games remaining, keeping their bowl hopes alive despite a daunting schedule remaining.

The Buffaloes travel to Los Angeles to take on the Bruins of UCLA. Colorado comes into the game as 18.5 point underdogs.
