OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The University of Colorado men’s golf team recorded the third best team score in the second round here Saturday, and in the process zoomed from 11th place into a tie for fifth with one day of competition remaining in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
Unranked Baylor used a practically unconscious second round to leap from sixth into first place through 36 holes, as the Bears have a 576 team score (16-over par), which leads host and No. 6 Illinois by eight shots (584). No. 17 Florida State slipped from second into third (589), with No. 2 Oklahoma State in fourth (591). Tied for fifth are Colorado, which received votes in the preseason poll, No. 7 Stanford and first round leader, No. 23 Virginia Tech, all in at 593 (or 33-over par).
