BOULDER — The Buffaloes are sending five volleyball players to the USA Volleyball tryouts Feb. 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The University of Colorado’s contingency includes junior outside hitter Alexis Austin, junior setter Nicole Edelman, freshman middle blocker Anna Pfefferle, sophomore libero Cierra Simpson and freshman setter/hitter Gabby Simpson.

”This is a great opportunity for many of our athletes to compete with and against the strongest competition in the country,” coach Liz Kritza said. “Fortunately, our training philosophy at CU helps our athletes to be well prepared for opportunities like this that allow them to expand their volleyball careers beyond the collegiate game. Our athletes have worked very hard through the fall, and they have been very focused this spring with this tryout as a focal point of their personal motivation.”

Good luck to the young women in what should be a challenging and fun weekend.

(Assume we'll also be hearing relatively soon about any spring scrimmages for the Buffs.)

Assume only of interest to total volleyball fanatics (assume it will be lots of drills, along with constant rotating of players when they play points), but wanted to mention anyone interested in checking in on these tryouts can watch them live through streaming available at http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/USA-Teams/Indoor-Volleyball/Women/National-Team-Tryouts . (Looks to be a camera dedicated to each of the 4 practice courts, with fans able to select which court they wish to watch.)

Per the webpage, streaming hours are- Feb 20, 2-8 p.m. MT | Feb 21, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. MT | Feb 22, 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m

Hard for me to even find them, but per the list at (http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyba...lleyball/Women/National-Team-Tryouts/Athletes), the Buff's are assigned the following Practice groups (red, white or blue colors- designates when they're try out session is), shirt colors (different than group color, these designate position) and numbers are-

Alexis Ausin- Blue group, shirt- N(avy)41
Nicole Edelman- White group, shirt- P(ink)75
Anna Pfefferle- Blue Group, shirt- R(ed)18
Cierra Simpson- White group, shirt- W(hite)40
Gabby Simpson- Red Group, shirt- P(ink)99

And, future Buff Taylor Joachim is also there, and is in the Red group, and assigned shirt B(lue)95 .

Today's practice schedule is/ was for the 3 groups- Red group (2-3:50 p.m. MT) |White group (4-5:50 p.m.) |Blue group (6:10-8 p.m.)
