SEATTLE - University of Colorado senior Liz Tremblay continues to light up the CU track and field record book, this time clocking the second fastest 800-meter time in CU history at the UW Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Tremblay raced to a time of 2:08.91 in the top section of the 800, finishing just slightly behind Stanford's Kori Carter (2:08.40). This is the second straight week that Tremblay has raced to a PR and the second spot on one of CU's charts. The top time for a Buffalo in the 800 is 2:05.29, which was set by Mary Decker (now Slaney) in 1978.

The success wasn't just limited to Tremblay as other Buffs did very well. Sophomore Mark Jones recorded a lifetime best in the high jump as he cleared 7 feet, 1.50 inches to tie for first place. The jump is the fourth best ever in CU history and placed him third on the performer's list behind Jason Dudley and Bill Jankunis. The jump was the best by a Buff since 1993 when Mark McDonald cleared 7-1. Jones tied with Stanford's Jules Sharpe.

CU had some other great performances at UW. Kelsey English tied for third in the high jump after clearing 5-07.50. Carrie Verdon debuted in the 5,000-meter run and placed fourth with a time of 16:47.59. Brianne Beemer also had a top-five finish in the top section of the 400, finishing in 56.58 for fifth-place overall.

The Buffs also put on a strong showing at the Air Force Academy Invitational and were led by sophomore Eileen Gehring's pair of first-place finishes. She started with a personal best of 55.00 in the 400 and just a few hours later came back to run 24.49 in the finals of the 200. Gehring's 400-time is the fifth fastest in school history.

Lindsy Mattson raced in both the 400 and 200 as well. She placed second in the 400 to Gehring (56.50) and was fourth in the 200 (25.55). Tyler Baker ran in the men's 400 finals and placed second in 49.74.

Aric Van Halen and Jana Stolting also came away from the meet with individual crowns. Van Halen won the mile run in 4:21.40 and was closely followed by three teammates who finished in the top six. Ammar Moussa and Hugh Dowdy were third and fourth, respectively. Moussa, who was running in his first track race for the Buffs, finished in 4:22.38, and Dowdy recorded a time of 4:27.19. Joe Mitchem, also running for the first time in the black and gold, placed sixth in 4:31.47.

Stolting ran the 3,000-meter run and crossed the finish in 10:24.18. The field was pretty far back from her as the next closest competitor was Devon England (Wyoming) who finished in 10:49.41. The remaining 17 racers all crossed the line after the 11 minute mark or beyond.

The Buffs also looked strong in the women's mile run. Staci Foster took second and was just .02 seconds behind Metro State's Brenna Hemming, who took the top spot in 5:06.34. Foster finished in 5:06.36. Just behind Foster was Courtney Bouchet in third place (5:09.89). Camille Logan (5:16.57) took sixth and Diana George placed seventh (5:17.84).

CU had a couple of good finishes in the 800 for the men and the women. Blake Theroux ran a very close race, just barely finishing in second place behind Air Force's David Ptacek. Ptacek finished in 1:54.41 and Theroux ran 1:54.47. Lindsey Hubbard placed fourth in the women's race (2:21.60).

The Buffs will be off next weekend. They will be back in action for the Husky Classic in Seattle, Feb. 8-9 and the Air Force Team Challenge on Feb. 9.
