It took two games more than Colorado coach Jon Embree would have liked, but when his team defeated Colorado State on Saturday in Denver, it restored a tradition in Boulder that had been cast aside in recent years.

BOOOO. Make um earn the bricks JE.

(as an aside, I kinda get this... better not to make this a running point of ridicule for CU this season)

It is disappointing in some ways, but maybe it's only a brick game b/c it's the first game won in the Embree era. It wouldn't have mattered who they played. But from this point forth, csu should never be a brick game again.

So if we had beaten an NAIA school that would have warranted a brick?

Here is the official CU comment on the bricks, from back in August --- read this and tell me where Saturday's CSU game fits in.

[FONT=Cambria, serif]The bricks also symbolize the "big game bricks" that once were prominent in a lower Dal Ward hallway leading to the locker room. Each time the Buffs won a significant game, the score and date of the victory were printed in gold paint on one of the hallway's bricks. Over the years, it became an impressive display, a tangible link to past tradition and high standards - until it was painted over under the former regime.

Maybe any first win on our schedule (too bad it was csu) but you're right, Saturday's win doesn't fit in according to that description.

Embree had to give them a brick for this. By all accounts he has been kicking their asses since he took over and many kids left or were asked to leave the program. They also lost their first two games, one was a heart-breaker. The shadow of sucktitude from D2 loomed far too large and nearly all of these kids had been duped by that swindler. There had to be some recognition for the effort they have put in since Embree took over.

Ordinarily a CSU game would be on par with any other non-BCS opponent, but in this particular case a win just meant too much to overlook.

I don't care if he was Will Farrell's angry boss to them every single day of practice - rewarding the players for beating CSU is exactly the same as having the students storm the field.

CSU sucks, and beating them should not be considered a big win in any way shape or form.
