Looks like Burney just worked himself into the NFL draft:

Ringo tweet: Ben Burney is killing it at Colorado's pro day. 4.38 in the 40, 39-inch vertical, 10-1 broad jump

I personally thought he was one of, if not the best player on the defense last year. Sucks that he struggled with injuries, but with those numbers I see a team using a mid-late round draft pick on him... or at the very least picking him up as a free agent.

    39" VJ? WOW.

The guy will get drafted based on these measurables. I wonder what his reps were on the bench now and his time in the shuttle.

Good for him, his versatility to play both CB and S will help too I'm sure.

A lot of times a guy is better off being undrafted than getting picked up in the late rounds. With these kind of numbers and as well as he played last year when healthy he will have teams interested in him. As an UFA he will have the opportunity to select the team that he feels best fits his skills and has the best opportunity for him to catch on. As a late round draft choice he may be stuck in a situation where they just want him for insurance in case some other guy doesn't come back from an injury or sign.

As a FA he has a chance to actually make more money than a late round choice as well.

True. If he's still on the board after the 5th round, I don't want him to get drafted. At that point, he's much better off getting to pick his team.

Bingo. See Pierre Thomas. He walked into an open competition as an UFA in New Orleans with Duece retiring and Bush sucking.

Go Burney - I always thought he at least looked like an NFLer, now he has the measurables. Eat it NFL Combine. That 4.38 is better than most of the DBs that got invited.

Can't say with certainty that the numbers are legit, but numbers done at CU timings have been very accurate when compared to how a guy's numbers look at the NFL Combine. I believe we do a good job of accurately testing people.

legit if they are done at pro day.

Still would have liked to read Burney's blog that got cut off last year.

Well done Ben! Imagine what he could have run if he hadn't been weighed down by all those plates and screws.

Oh ****!! Thank you so much for clearing that up. If it weren't for you I would have thought this whole time that our coaches made our players better. What a relief.

I wonder what his weight was. I understand that these guys are students, but to see them bulk up and get faster only after a few months is a little depressing.

As far as being drafted, well TWheat had a lot of injuries, but he was drafted in the 2nd round (although he hasn't played much). I don't think he goes that high, but I could see him being a 5th round pick just based off of his upside, especially if he bulked up.

Jeff Smart's #'s were also impressive imo

Burney is one of my all time favorite Buffs. Mostly because of his over-the-top personality (in a fun way). He fought his way through injuries, slid over to safety when we needed him, and proved a difference maker from that position. Funny, funny guy. Funnier than even the Goldfish, in my opinion.

Best wishes to him as he pursues the NFL dream.

Hopefully Burney kills it tonight with this lady-of-the-night. He deserves it after today's performance ;)

Due to historical events, we try to avoid applying this expression to former CU football players.

WTG Ben I so wish huge success for you! You survived the horror show that CU football has become. Represent well and change what this program used to be.

Fairly disappointing group (aside from Burney of course), not that this class was expected to produce many potential NFLers, but I would have thought Mohler and Geer would have had better numbers. Smart beating everyone except the RB's and DB's on the 40 time is surprising.
