College coaches make La Mirada a priority

By Erik McKinney - ESPN.com

La Mirada High School has hosted more than its share of college coaches over the past two weeks. There is good reason though, as the Matadores are stocked with talent at the senior, junior and sophomore levels.

While the headliners reside in the 2014 class, the 2013 recruiting class is well represented by linebacker Koa Kaleopaa and offensive guard Spencer Ueli-Fa'atoalia.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Kaleopaa holds offers from programs such as Arizona, Arkansas, California, Mississippi, Utah and Washington State. California has put together a strong push for the senior, who registered 45 tackles and five sacks this season. Colorado coaches will have an opportunity to make an impression during an in-home visit on Tuesday night, but the Golden Bears will have their chance either Wednesday or Thursday night. It wouldn't be shocking to see a possible commitment from Kaleopaa during or shortly after that visit.

One program that will be interesting to watch when it comes to Kaleopaa is Ohio State. Buckeyes' assistant coach Tim Hinton visited campus last week and was reportedly very impressed with the linebacker.

Ueli-Fa'atoalia holds offers from Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico State. An official visit to Nevada will likely be scheduled later this week, when Wolfpack coaches are due on campus.

In the junior class, tight end Tyler Luatua won't just be the most recruited player on the team. He could wind up as the most highly-recruited player in the state for his class. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound two-way standout already holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC and Vanderbilt, among others. Coach Hinton made sure to check in with the La Mirada coaches about Luatua during his visit. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and assistant coach Mike Denbrock visited the school last week as well, as the Fighting Irish pursue Luatua.

If one player has a chance to push Luatua for the title of top offensive player at La Mirada, it's fellow junior Dallis Todd. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound receiver will be back for the 2013 season and caught the eye of coaches who have visited the school over the past two weeks, including ones from California, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Washington.

The 2015 class also offers a pair of prospects. Offensive tackle Anthony Cerillo already holds an offer from Colorado, while quarterback Kevin Dillman will take over duties as a junior and has eight offers at this point. Dillman likes Notre Dame early and the Fighting Irish coaches have requested his sophomore film.

I wish Koa would come to CU. He would probably start as a RS Fresh or true Soph. I don't really think we have any chance here. Not even if we would have hired Nick Saban to coach CU.
