I am talking in the context of this season. My biggest fear is that Hawkins has set up a culture where intensity just does not come to forefront on game day. I thought CUs lack of emotion was telling...even Neil Woelk commented that CU seemed disinterested on the sidelines. Do you really believe that CSU has better team speed than the Buffs - it certainly looked like it the way they were flying to the ball.

QB - I posted before the season the Buffs had to get better efficiency out of the QB position. It did not happen and we are going to see better defenses than CSU's. 5.5 yards per attempt just will not cut it. I am convinced the book is out on CH - rush him and get a hand in his face and he will make bad throws and bad decisions. Do not know the answer but it has to improve.

OLine - Do not understand what happened there but only hope it can get better with experience. The line looked slow. CSU did not have a bunch of studs on the Dline...

WRs - I am hoping that Simas will make a big difference.. He should know the playbook, he has been here 3 years. But these guys do not scare anyone of course 2 of them were not practicing 2 weeks ago.

Offensive coaching - not going to go there.

Defensive line. This could be the Achilles Heel of the entire team - They were dominated, hopefully the CSU oline is that good. But I am afraid that this is going to continue to be an area of concern.

Linebackers - I was disappointed in their play but I know this group has the talent.

DBs - the safeties got fooled on play action too many times resulting in the big pass plays ( of course when the opposing QB has all day he is going to hit some passes).

Defensive coaching - Collins has to figure out how to get pressure on opposing QBs on a consistant basis - this has not happened under his tenure.

I'm afraid the only way to fix the problem is to completely change the mindset of the players. Enough of this "even keel" bullshat. That ain't getting the job done.

It was like they were sleepwalking through the entire game. That needs to change. If they can instil some sense of urgency into the players, then we might be able to turn it around. Otherwise, this is going to be another mediocre season.

Personnel has got to change... I don't believe that the best players are on the field. Honoring the guy who has the best story, or works the hardest, or who is the nicest does not reflect the real world, sorry.

Exactly. Personnel also has to change at the top. His psycho babble BS isnt working, no one is buying it, and we need a guy like Mac or EB that can light a fire into these young mens hearts and desires. wannabe-Ghandi's methods and tactics while might be loved by the hippies at Naropa, do NOT F-IN WORK FOR FOOTBALL!!!

Can the problems be fixed? You bet they can. Most of them, anyway. This team has talent, it just needs to be coached up.

The problem, as was mentioned by someone else, is that the coaching staff must first properly identify what is wrong before they can fix it. And if Talkin knows what is wrong, he's not saying.

The frustrating thing is that a lot of the problems are so goddamn easy to see, yet they persist...

Ya the problems can be fixed with a new coach that gets a team ready on gameday.

There was that article in the DP that mentioned how former players noticed the difference between the Barnett pregame rituals and the Hawkins ones. That article raised eyebrows to me personally.

""Asked if Hawkins gets players up emotionally to play a game, Hypolite said, "Not really. I don't think he does. He doesn't stir up a lot of emotion. To his credit, it's the way he wants it. He's even-keeled. Let what happens on Saturdays speak for it. Unfortunately, we haven't been very good on Saturday."""

That's life. Sometimes you just miss by a hair. But you come back and try again. Keep coming at 'em. What else are you gonna do?

In other words, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

I think having Simas on the field would do wonders. Espinoza and Jefferson are not b12 recievers. Scott McNight, shouldn't be the reciever we rely on.

Seems a little premature to judge Jefferson IMO....

But he didn't catch 5 TDs in those plays. Fail. Why not put Ryan Maxwell in there for Jefferson????
